Coral Ink

Suggestions for a legible ink that is between orange and pink, not strident but more soft? Coral, Apricot, Peach ... Have I said legible? J.Herbin Corail des Tropiques is a little more orange and a little lighter than I want; that's the only one I have tried so far. Mountain of Ink says Diamine Coral is even lighter, so maybe not that one. It's an unusual color, so any suggestions would be most welcome.

Diamine Coral is very legible IMO. You can look at other Diamines like Flamingo pink or Peach Haze, I find these 3 saturated enough to be legible, and "in your face" enough.

I guess I'm going to get a bunch of samples and compare them. Any more recommendations?

Pity Lamy Neon Coral was limited edition. It was legible, and about how you describe. I looked up the HEX code for the Lamy ink, put it in the ink swatch website search, and got these results.

I recommend buying the Platinum Mixable Cyclamen Pink and the Yellow, maybe the red as well and mixing your own. Also take a look at the Sailor Studio line, there’s some salmony colors and they range in saturation levels.

Top 5 of 25 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor Mini Pro Gear Slim M, Van Dieman’s Neptune’s Necklace

Waterman’s 52V red ripple ring top, Herbin Vert de Gris

Wing Sung 698 SF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Lapis/ Sapphire

Cross Wanderlust Malta M, DeAtramentis Columbia Blue-Bronze-Copper

DeAtramentis made a Coral ink, although it may be too saturated if you’re looking for something softer.

DeAtramentis also makes Lachs Salmon/Standard Salmon , as well as a number of other inks in that color range as depicted on Vanness’ DeAtramentis page:

Yoseka stationery has an ink line called Ceramics, which were formulated to mimic iconic Chinese glazes, and this one called Qing Shan Hu Red may be soft enough for you needs.

Birmingham’s Ladybug and Stagecoach are on the pinker side, and they have some other more orange inks, all shown on this page.

Sailor's Apricot and/or Kin-Mokusei. Very similar.

For those who have deep pockets, Montblanc is currently offering a ‘reassuringly expensive’ ink by the name of ‘Coral’.

Linky.

Yes, Lamy Neon Coral is exactly the shade. Irony.

Are Herbin Rouille d'Ancre or Diamine Orchid (Cult Pens exclusive) close to the color you are looking for?

I ordered a sample of rouille d'ancre. Although it isn't quite "right" it looks interesting. Diamine Orchid is the right color but is too light to be very readable.

another one of my samples. Although it isn't 'soft' it's an ink I've always wanted to try.

Fuyu Gaki is an ink I tried to like several times, but failed for some reason. I tried to scratch the itch with Sailor ink studio 473 and 773 too. Now I'm thinking it's time to reconsider Fuyu-Gaki.

Fuyu-gaki is my go-to orange ink.  It does indeed lean a bit to the coral, but I would call it orange, not coral.

Pure Pens 'Castell Coch', a fascinating coral colour  as in the stuff you find in the sea, rather than a peachy orange. Named after the outrageously camp William Burgess 19thc Welsh weekend picnic destination for the Earl of Bute (who used it all of twice) - a wild fantasy of what a medieval castle might be if the builders had been fans of Burne-Jones. All the exterior woodwork is pained a coral colour, and the interior is the stuff of fantasy novels. Worth a trip (castle) and a dip (ink).

Pure Pens inks are all amazingly well behaved, have beautiful colours and are incredibly cheap - I have never understood why they are not more widely celebrated.

Yes, I have - twice! Also Cardiff Castle, designed by William Burges on a scale that only Ludwig II could surpass . Lord Bute was one of the richest men in the world at the time (coal) and liked a good spend. Unusually, he was also a quite lovely person.

Cardiff Castle has  Winter and  Summer smoking rooms (and tobacco wasn't all he smoked), a baronial hall and much else. The castle is surrounded with an Animal Wall decorated with exotic beasts that are much loved by locals :
