Montblanc 100y Meisterstück LE The Origin Collection — coral & blue

Hello everyone,

Here is a first impression of the LE inks, which still have the status “coming soon”. However, I was able to buy two of them. In my eyes, the inks fit with Ancient Egypt and the iconic Montblanc’s Egyptian fountain pens in the 1920s, which have been released before the Meisterstück:

The blue is a light lapis lazuli, quite common in paintings in Ancient Egypt. It is a fairly homogeneous ink with little shading, as you can see in the writing sample with a B round corn nib. It is more likely to benefit from being applied with a wider and very wet nib — e.g. Italic.

The red is a carnelian tone that I really like and it has a stronger shading. The ink is not that wet. I made the writing sample with a flat cut nib corn, some may reckon MB broad nibs as Italics. In terms of color, I wouldn't describe it as "coral", as that is a quite wide spectrum and inaccurate.
(My compliments to the daltonists at MB Marketing,-)

I'm pretty thrilled because I was searching a lot for an authentic carnelian. It is exactly what I was looking for.

Enjoy,

Todor

What number do they give in the bottoms of the bottles, so people can see if these are reused or actually new colors.

Wasn’t aware, one can trace this by the numbers.
Pls, tell me more about that..

Here they are:

Coral 2318-O401

Blue 2405-O401

They have not yet been sneaky enough to change that number when reusing a color under a new name

Thanks for posting this review

I have to admit, I find these ink over priced and basically one pays for the bottle and the name, but not necessarily the ink. However, the Carnelian ink is quite elegant :)

That ‘Coral’ looks like a nice red in your photos 😊

Sadly though, here in the UK a 50ml bottle of it is priced at £34 (€39.50 or $42.15).
I would need to be really sure that I really wanted it before paying that much money.

(I have ancestors from Yorkshire. A county in which, er, ‘Prudence’ is a highly-regarded virtue.)

I’ve tried varying the location/currency on the Montblanc website

I used an online currency converter to compare the listed price for each currency/territory that I checked against the price listed for GBP/UK.

None of the currencies/locations that I have tried lists a price that is as-high as the one for the UK 🙄

I imagine the real prices that actually count for anybody are those listed in the site which appear after you choose the currency or country in question offered up top at the right.

And who could blame them? 🤷‍♂️

In my experience though, this has been true for the prices that get charged for most things here since long before the nasty ‘B’-word happened.

E.g. in the days before the www, Brits who travelled to north America often reported back that the US price tags for e.g. Levi’s jeans would bear the same number after their ‘$’ sign that the tags in UK shops bore after the ‘£’ sign.

And this was back in the days when £1 was nominally ‘worth’ between $1.65 & $2.

It was common for people going on holiday to e.g. NYC to travel outwards with at least one suitcase that was only half-full, so that on the return trip to the UK their cases had enough room to hold all the new clothes that they would buy able to buy far more cheaply in the US.

The UK does have lots of good things going for it, but it is a Silly place.

As far back as my first trip to England 27 years ago I remember asking my dad why we get so many fewer pounds for our dollars only to have to give the same number of pounds for things as we do dollars. That said,  I fermenter Germany being more expensive than the USA too and now things are much cheaper there, even groceries.

Thanks, @Todor, for introducing these two inks to us. 👍

I like the colour and, especially, your handwriting. However, the inks do not appear to be unique in their colours or behaviours, not enough, at least, to making them an attractive buy.

One life!

Thank you for posting! I’ve been eagerly awaiting swatches of these colors. Agreed, the Carnelian is stunning!

Just curious it someone has compared it to montblanc Leonardo red chalk ink , this does look a little darker.

When I was stationed in Germany it was the same way. Luckily dollars to DM wasn't bad but trying to buy a cd marked $9.99 and being charged £s instead sucked.

As a Brit, I fondly remember the days when we got over 2 dollars to the pound. British salaries have stagnated since, while the pound has lost its value, making America really bloody expensive for us. I say us, but I don't live there and don't get paid in pounds! 😅

Thank you @Todor

If you're familiar with either Edelstein Sapphire or Herbin's Eclat de Saphir - how does the blue compare to these?

Thanks!

Is it bad that I prefer it this way for now?
