The richness of letter writing and the rewarding connections made with others. How do "you" do it? What do you do?

Someone told me many years ago, "Letter writing is like a slow conversation".  I've learned from others to add richness to the experience of making and maintaining personal connections at levels they can connect with. Whether inserts, photographs, exchanging stories, using creative stationery, and much more, there's a permanence to creating "real" artifacts with pen, typewriter, and paper.

I have been exchanging letters globally with others for many years and it continues to be rewarding, and a learning experience.

What do you do in your letter or letter package exchanges with others?

I participate in two letter exchange groups. Both are made up of italic handwriting enthusiasts. One is international. The other is associated with the college I attended.

In my first letter to a correspondent I generally introduce myself, including my personal history with italic handwriting and calligraphy. For subsequent letters, at best it is a "conversation" which can go in lots of directions.  Sometimes I do include a gift - most often a few sheets of a favorite fountain pen friendly paper or a few extra greeting cards of which I have way too many.

I hope others join this conversation. I'm interested in new ideas for letter exchanges.

Happy writing!

David
