Parker 45 or 51

I live in India is the regular summer temperature too high

I don’t know whether it is or is not. And of course that would depend on where you are in India.
The climate of e.g. Rajasthan is rather different to that of Himachal Pradesh, or West Bengal, or Kerala 😉

For what it is worth, I have never seen any remark/complaint on FPN by someone in e.g. Spain, or southern France, or Arizona, or California (or India) to say that the grip-section of their Parker 45 has deformed/melted in their home.

My remark about heat possibly being responsible for deforming the grip-sections was a sort of ‘educated guess’.

Even if it is right, I would expect that the heat would need to be over 50 degrees Centigrade, perhaps over the mid-50s Centigrade, for it to cause any shrinkage.

So, if you happen to live in Rajasthan, I would definitely advise you to never leave the pen inside a closed car during the Summer.
But, if you happen to live in Shimla, I would expect that would probably never have such a problem. Unless you leave your pen on top of a heater during the Winter 😉

The best way for you to check whether or not the heat in your area might cause the plastic to deform would be to go on to your local social media, and ask if anyone who lives in your area has ever had a pen (of whatever model) melt/deform because of the heat.
Or, if you live in the Himalayas, whether anyone nearby has ever had a pen become very brittle in the cold during the Winter.

I have been thinking about buying a pen from my birthday in January and I still have not decided on what to buy🤦‍♂️

The fact that you have not yet decided is not a ‘bad’ thing.

You are currently in the process of doing research into different pen models, which will enable you to decide on which pen will suit you the best.

Doing this research should minimise the possibility of you buying a pen that you might later find out that you do not like.
I think that your actions are very sensible.

Provided that you are fairly sure of not having it filched, why wouldn't you?

Do you know anyone/anywhere that has one of those for sale?

In my experience, they’re about as easy to find as a heartfelt, genuine apology from a politician 😉

The model I am interested in is the flighter

Same section, which is where most of the problems pop up.

Even deformed, it's not THAT bad, just a bit wavy. I shall post a picture of my deformed 45 section one day.

But they can be REALLY ugly.  I mean really ugly.  I've seen them.

Just asking people here in Vizag causes them to say a 2 rupee pen is better or 0.024 dollars. But it is definitely not 50 degrees here it’s around 35 ish

Ah, Visakhapatnam!
Site of yet another, er, glorious recent performance by the England cricket team 😁

35 degrees Centigrade, while being too hot for me to feel comfortable, should not be hot enough to threaten the plastic of a Parker 45’s grip section.
But I would still advise you to not leave one in a parked car on a hot summer day!

Ha ha - I know what you mean. By and large all they are really apologizing for is getting caught out!

P51 C/Cs are not quite as scarce as hens' teeth but getting there. I expect that there are more to be found in the USA than over here. They do not come cheap.

I bought one of my P51 C/Cs (a working prototype) on Ebay (not from some random seller because I knew who the vendor was which confirmed provenance). The others were from a collector friend.

Like some others here I suspect, my pattern of collecting is cyclical. I over-collect, get buyer's remorse, over-dispose, get seller's remorse and repeat. My last bout of over-disposal saw the back of several Parkers that I regretted letting go the second they were gone, P51 C/C included. Now I need to fill some gaps in the collection (and add some more Vacs now that I have begun pulling at that particular thread).

In answer to your question, however, I'm afraid that I don't know of anybody who has a P51 C/C for sale but then I have not been on the lookout for any recently. I will be hanging on to the one in the photo (not a production model) and my other C/C, a Classic Black.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Ah well, tant pis.

And I can comfort myself with the knowledge that the very difficulty of the Quest will make a successful conclusion to it that much more rewarding, eh? 😉

P51 C/C model is rare but it is possible to find here in England though the prices are pretty high...

It is funny that all the ones I came across during last 3 years were in NOS condition.

If you attend LPS you should be certainly able to source one there.

Alternatively, it can be sourced via reputable Parker collectors like Graham Jasper.

About three years ago I was offered P51 C/C in NOS condition but I was silly slow and missed the chance...

I'll admit that I never was remotely interested in vintage 51 c/c pens (and even LESS interested in the "reboot" ones).

I'm perfectly happy with my 51 Aeros and 51 Vacs -- most of which I got for decent to quite excellent prices, even including repairs on some of them.  As for other models of 51s that are c/c pens, I like the fact that -- other than the diameter on some styles of converters not fitting inside the barrel -- the (proprietary) converters WILL fit over the back end of the feed, even on vintage Parker pens.

I am interested in vintage P51 C/C only as a collector's item :)

As Mercian said above, I need to fill a gap in my collection...

Well, I am not a "c-worder" collector.  The only pens I don't use are some of the vintage ones I haven't gotten repaired yet.

And I am a collector and have many pens that I have never and will never use.  I fail to see the point.

Glad to see that c-worder is still in use.

In looking up Parker 51s and a converter I was surprised to see an ebay ad for a converter

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185521044596

This must be some deviant work and is, IMHO the wrong way around.

A few years ago, Alfa Romeo brought out a very ugly car, perhaps their only ugly car, it had  a Datsun body with an Alfa Romeo engine, If they had put a Datsun engine and electrics in an Alfa Romeo body they might have had a winner.

One of the best thinks about the 51 aero was the filling system.

Oh that is an interesting conversion ring/section!

The comparison with the Alfa Arna is a bit harsh though 😂

I always wanted a cc 51, but didn't find anything in my price range so far. That Indian made conversion thing might be it!

And I am in the same boat, too :)

I have never used about 80% (or even more) of pens from my Parker collection, and have no intention to use any of them i the future, especially NOS/uninked ones.
