Parker Duette Moderne - where to get replacement lid?

Recommended Posts

My parents recently gave me an old Parker Duette Moderne (brown marbled plastic body, 14k gold nib, button filler, Made in Canada) that they inherited from an uncle. Unfortunately, it has no lid, and I still need to figure out how to get the button filler mechanism working.

Can anyone please suggest me where I can get a replacement lid? or any tutorials on repairing/testing/using the button filler mechanism?

Many thanks!

I would say that you have very little chance, perhaps no chance would be more accurate,  of finding a replacement cap on its own and in the right colour. I could tell you how to sort the button filler but until a cap is found there really isn't much point.

You have a pen that will be worth around £50-70 when perfect, you will need a new sac and a spring bar to squeeze the sac and a good service, probably about £30-40 minimum from an expert repairer plus mailing at £10,  Even without the cap your costs are about on a par with the replacement cost.

You may strike lucky and someone will have a spare cap but these caps were fragile when new and often crack after 90 years.

Your model of pen comes up for sale, but not often, on ebay  and usually  in black, you may be better off to set up an ebay alert for your pen and see if it is worth a parts swap.

Thank you for the information. I will keep an eye out. Maybe someone going through inherited relics will find the original, or maybe I can make a cap. Or just use it as a dip pen.

You have a better chance of finding a plain black cap, if you can cope with the missmatch,

You may want to check the size of the pen in your hand, some of the Depression era Parkers are too small for larger hands

  • 9 months later...

I ended up carving a lid for it recently, out of a piece of scrap sapele wood I picked up at a customer site. I'll post pictures soon. Drilled a 9mm hole in the wood, then cut it off and sanded it round. I didn't have a big enough piece to go over the cap threads on the body, so it's just a friction fit on the section, but I think it looks very nice.

Now I need to find out how to disassemble it without breaking to replace the sac inside. Anyone here have any advice for repairing Parker Duette Moderne button fillers, how to disassemble them, etc.?

Great solution!  The important part is to have what you can as a keepsake, for emotional value.

Thank you for the advice! I managed to pull the button out without any trouble, bar is there but doesn't come out. I can't tell if the section is glued in or if it has a screw thread, but I haven't had any luck shifting that yet.

Dry heat, assume the section is threaded.

One test is worth a thousand expert opinions.
