Shellac for gap filling?

Hi all,

Today I very excitedly opened a parcel from India, and was met with an unhappy sight. It was a set of custom pens that I had been waiting for for a very long time.

They are all good* except for the tops of their caps. There's just these big, nasty gaps where the clip is fitted. There are some pictures attached. The second photograph is me trying to show that one can see clear daylight through the gap between the finial and the body of the cap.

Could I possibly fill-in these gaps with shellac? And maybe sand the rough edges smooth? Or is there a better way to go about remediating the situation? I'm open to ideas.

Alternatively, I imagine filling the gaps and polishing the pens back up would be a fairly rudimentary task for some of you clever pen turner folk. Is there anyone UK based who'd be willing to take these on as a repair job? Payment forthcoming, of course.

*Also, the sections of the pens were supposed to be cut to take friction fit ebonite Sheaffer No Nonsense feeds, but have instead arrived with injection molded Jowo nib units. I don't think there is an easy 'repair' for that disparity, short of having new sections made, but please do tell me if I'm wrong about that.

I'd really like to "make good" on these if possible. All advice welcome. Offers of a solution doubley-so.

Rewpert.
