Sailor has a new pen: TUZU!

Here is a link to the official English website for this new line of pens: https://tuzu-en.sailor.co.jp/

This looks like a LAMY Safari/entry-level pen competitor, with some extra functionality to stand above its competition.

What do you think about it? Would you get one to try it out?

Apparently will appear on store shelves sometime in April this year.

A Lamy Safari with an adjustable grip. I like it!
Definitely will buy when it becomes available here, thank you for the presentation videos.

Looks like something I have to add to my shopping list when I'm in Osaka in May, then!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

This is a great idea! I like the looks and idea of Lamy Safari but I don't like the way they write. This should be a good alternative. Sign me up for a gray one.

Looks like they've priced it around the Safari price as well, maybe more like an AL-star after overseas logistics costs have been factored in.

Thanks @2ouvenir for that information.  A couple years back when ??? bought Sailor I think a lot of us feared it was the beginning of the end.  However, I have been impressed that they have been trying new models, and not just new colors of an old model.  I know nothing of their financials, but to this consumer it seems to have been a good move.  I'm happy to see another new pen from them.

I'm not impressed with the adjustable grip though.  The fixed grip of my Safari is why I don't use it, it's just the wrong anfle for me.  But adjustment is also necessary for me on a Kakuno, which has a faceted section like the Safari, and that adjustment is achieved by just pulling nib and feed a reassemblinig a few degrees differently.  That's enabled by the elegantly simple design of typical Japanese nib/feed/section.  This seems to me like over-engineering something that they already had.

Oh wow...a snap-cap that seals and an adjustable grip/nib...very nice!
If it weren't a fugly lamy-like I'd consider buying one.
The only real gripe I have with my two pens is that they take 3 full turns to unscrew/screw and that makes starting to write or putting the pens away a chore.

I like that the body is round, the faceted pens like the Safari tend to hurt after awhile.

Oh, and grey, I like grey.

A SailFari?  If the price is right, I'll try one.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I tend to dislike faceted grip sections, but being adjustable, I like it!

US$55 MSRP, according to what I saw on Reddit.

for me the interesting question is:  is that a new steel nib type for sailor?  or did they source the nib from China?  Is it then interchangeable with actual Lamy nib?

Yeah I want to know too - that will be the determing factor of whether I want it or not. Does the writing experience resemble that of the ProColor or that of the Compass? The TUZU nib doesn't look like either nib, indeed it does look like a LAMY Z50 nib, and this steel variant also comes in a broad, which is new.

When I said I want to know too, I just meant I want to know in general how the steel nib writes. Sailor's steel nibs are not so consistent across their products so I don't want to impulsively buy all the colors of this TUZU range to find out their steel nibs write like nibs used in their Compass line (personal preference for steel nibs used in their ProColor or Shikiori line; bonus if they write like the Pilot Prera fine steel nibs). I also don't have the privilege to go in-store to try them out before purchase. I guess I could wait for reviews but I'm afraid that they would be sold out by then (we have limited stock here in Canada), especially their LE colors.

I agree with the second statement, and sound like a broken record telling people not to regard (or pretend) the product quality or writing performance of the steel nibs on either the Profit Jr. (and Lecoule) or the HighAce Neo models as representative of “Sailor nibs” in the collective consciousness and/or as often referred to in fountain pen hobbyist forums online.

But I'm hoping that the writing experience of the Tuzu will be different again, such that the only way to know for oneself is to try one; and preferably as an experience in its own right, and not predicated on “the language” of a relative frame of reference based on experiences with other types of Sailor nibs, or Lamy nibs, Pilot nibs, nibs on the Platinum Procyon or Plaisir, etc.

I notice on one video the nib is a new design for a smooth writing experience, at least that what they said.

Nice catch, yeah it's at 1:40 of the "Function Tutorial Video". Seems like it is a new nib then.
