Fountain pens or broad pen nibs for Arabic/Persian calligraphy

I am looking for good pens to write Persian calligraphy with, specifically in the Naskh and Nastaliq scripts. I am currently using a 2 mm tip from Tape, but the results are not the best. Ink flow and smoothness is far from optimal, plus it’s like the ink will only flow if you write in a specific direction (top down). It makes it very difficult to write specific letters with the correct shape. I have seen some calligraphers on YouTube who use standard fountain pen nibs instead, cutting or sanding them into an oblique tip. Any tips, explanations and recommendations are welcome.

Hi Fereydun,

the following old thread contains information that may be useful for you:

I also know that some pen manufacturers used to make nibs that were specifically intended for Arabic/Hebrew calligraphy.
I assume that those nibs would also be suitable for Naskh and Nastaliq, but I do not know this to be correct.

It may be a good idea for you to search on retail/auction sites in Arab countries for pens with nibs that are suitable for your script(s). Those countries - and perhaps Pakistan - surely must sell nibs that are suitable for creating calligraphy in Arabic.

I wish you good luck in your search 😊

Slàinte,
M.
