Kobe #56 Rokko Shichidanka

Many thanks to @Lithium466 for the sample 🙏

Ink is named after a Japanese Hydrangea:

spacer.png

The chroma represents the complex tones of the flower.

large.Chroma-Kobe56.jpeg.e2553e46ce594e259202e05445367965.jpeg

I most enjoyed doing washes with this ink, rather than writing. The ink is too complex and gorgeous to write with. 😛

If I were to use it for writing it would be on a white Japanese paper with a B nib. The colour simply sings and evokes mid-summer. On Rhodia it was flat, and it bled through with a B nib.

Note that the pink dye in the chroma is stubborn and will take time some time to clean your pen :)

Writing Samples:

The texts are poems by Akiko Yosano ( 1878 – 1942) translated by Sam Hamill & Keiko Matsui Gibson. The darker colour on the Japanese Ef nib is due to the fact that the ink had stayed for a week or two in the pen, before I did the writing sample.

and finally some artwork:

This was inspired by an artwork by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. The paper is a no name super absorbent paper, they grey ink is Noodler's Pasternak.

purple_dreams_by_yazeh1_dh1vnzh-414w-2x.

and here is another work where I used a water brush on the feed of a fountain pen to soak up the ink and draw on Canson Mixed media paper:

The black ink is Platinum Carbon Black using the same technique.

@yazeh, I have no experience with this ink!  But I love the chroma, the sketches (esp. #2) and hydrangeas in general.

Thanks once again for these wonderful Ink-Splorations!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thanks, @yazeh! :) Great review of an interesting color.  Pretty flowers, nice chroma.  Do you have some Iroful paper?  I could send you some and perhaps it would help you like this ink a little more for writing. :D  Seems like a very soft color, perhaps relaxing like Herbin Eclat de Saphir...  The shading from your B and flex nibs is lovely.

Love kimono-swatch-kitty. :D    Water-test kitty makes me smile.  I wonder what Mr. Mouse is saying to him.   And samurai mouse is back! Hooray! :D Love the artwork.  Very sophisticated kitty and lovely flowers. :)  Very lovely addition to my Saturday evening.

It's worse being in an Ink bottle than getting wet :D

Thank you so much. Mean a lot. I also loved your latest Platinum Zentangle. Gorgeous work. I loved what looked like old film canisters on the top :)

You really do this beautiful ink justice! I very much enjoyed your drawing and your review. I used it with a broad Osmiroid italic straight nib and fell in love.

Top 5 (in no particular order) of 22 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Parker Parkette Jr (‘38), Diamine Kensington Blue

Pilot Custom 74 MS, Lamy Vibrant Pink

Eversharp Symphony F, Herbin Bleu Nuit

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Thank you for your review and the lovely sketches!

That ink works really well in a Pilot CH912 FA, or a Pilot Falcon SEF for ex. I no longer have some Iroshizuku Ajisai but I wonder how they'd compare.

The house I grew up in had a huge beautiful hydrangea in front, producing that lovely complex mix of blues and purples. I believe it is still there nowadays :)

PS: I think I included some Iroful within the Pelikan paper sandwich.

Thank you for showing this so well! It's beautiful.

I couldn't help but think this might be very similar to Herbin Bleu Myosotis and/or PenBBS April Diamond, not sure.

Oh no! Bleu myosotis has good lubrication but is (slighly) darker, greyer and bluer too. Also flatter and boring, but maybe that's just me :D

Can't say about the PenBBS.

I checked on Anderson's Inktool and INkswatch. As @Lithium466 said, Kobe seems to be more vibrant :)

According to Anderson's Ink tool, Ajisai is darker and more saturated ;)

Hydrangea colours fluctuat depending to the soil ph. If the soil is acidic they're blue, if it's natural, purple and If Alkaline pink :) That's a lovely memory, thanks for sharing 🙏fox

:)

I first learned that in middle school during a chemistry lesson and then tried unsuccessfully to make the soil more acidic so it would lean more blue. Of course my version of making the soil more acidic at that time only implied various experiments with pouring Coke and vinegar...which never had any noticeable effect 😂

@yazeh That's a pretty color -- and seems to be not too light to be illegible on the page, either.

Thanks as usual for the comprehensive review.  And, well, not....

(Well, as it turns out it already *was* on my list of "inks to order by December of 2024....)

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Thank you, @yazeh, for this ink review and for your drawings! 👍

While it is not in my prey colour range, I love how the ink behaved when applied with a brush. Japanese cat lady looks quite amused - may it be because of mouse or because of the ink colour? :)

Thumbs up 👍👍 for trying to protect cat from the water test. I guess, it got wet by accident? 🤭

One life!

Well it's not my fault that it wanted to hide in an ink bottle 😂
