Esterbrook Relief - Different Clip

Hello Esterbrook Fans

I picked up this Relief Pen but the clip does not look correct.  My gut says the clip was replaced at some point, however the clip does vaguely seem familiar.  So wondering if anyone has seen this clip on a relief pen.

Thanks in advance

Yeah, not the right clip, or even close to the right fit.   I've seen that style before, too, but can't place it.   Summit?  Mentmore?

When I first got into this, I always thought it would help to have photo/database library of clip and lever styles.

Yeah, I am sure the red band disintegrated and then the clip was lost.  Other than that, the pen is in good condition and Just finished the restoration work on it.

I was going to say Mentmore too, but I don't think that's correct. Definitely the wrong clip, but looks English. Relief pens only have two different styles of clips, this isn't one.

That clip has been found on a Valentine.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

The clip is a design used by Lang (Summit). You will more commonly find it on a National Security, Stephens, or some of the Typhoo Tea pens. It is usually found with a separate cowl /stud arrangement, but not always.

In this particular case it will be a poorly thought out replacement, and if it is the one I saw recently on ebay then the seller has no qualms about putting a frankenpen out there as 'all original' - Nice nib though.

I might have a suitable spare in my parts box.

The Estie forum seems pretty quiet at the moment, so I thought I would add pictures of a couple of Relief models that have recently come my way. The Relief 90 is NOS, the other is a (Conway Stewart made) Esterbrook Relief 2S in quite a rare colourway.

For the OP, note the differing pocket clips, I think your pen should have a version of the one seen on this 2S

Nice!   The Relief 90 is on my short list.  I have a 2-S, 2-L , 12 and 66.
