I notice more Ranga brass pens showing up. I'm still scratching my head on this one. I'll stick to old school ebonite for now. Your thoughts?

I mean... If you want to use a pen as a billy club/baton, then you have your answer...

Another angle maybe as a workout tool, the marketing should be like "make your wrists as strong as your words..."

Don't take these remarks beyond a joke, but yeah... Personally, I second you, I'll stick to ebonite for now.

I noticed a brass Ranga model 5 on YouTube and was shocked and asked mr Kandan if it's usable for daily writing. He told that the Abhimanyu is usable and they were making it at that time.

But I have my doubts. I am a daily writer and hence would really wait for a while before making up my mind. Beyond that like both of you IAM very used to the touch and feel of ebonite. So currently a nay for me

Something for those who prefer sturdy heavy pens.  Some even like acrylic.  Hard to believe, but Ranga make those too.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Some people like metal pens. I don't. So a no for me too. But to be fair, most new Indian pens are a no for me these days anyway. I've been in this hobby for a while now and have found my favourite pens, so only buy new pens once in a while.

Ranga just posted a group buy for the brass Abhimanyu. That monster is way too heavy for me. It weighs 122 grams and 72 grams uncapped. I had a brass pen that weighed around 98 grams capped and 70 grams uncapped. It was just too heavy for me to even write a sentence. I ended up giving it away.

Out of curiosity, I just weighed my Ranga 3C (Kanwrite EF nib assembly, Schmidt K5 Converter, no ink), and it came in at 27 grams and 16 grams uncapped. Surprisingly, my Ranga 4CS (Kanwrite EF nib assembly, Schmidt K5 Converter, no ink) which I view as smaller than the 3C came in at wee bit more at 28 grams and 18 grams uncapped.

Not for me either. While I love both their ebonites and acrylics, this brass Abhimanyu shouts out Ugly to me...😒

a fountain pen is physics in action... Proud member of the SuperPinks

Additional Insights...

Regarding the pen weights, I now recall that per Mr. Kandan, the Premium Ebonites are slightly heavier and softer than the Regular and Special Ebonites. I weighed a few of my Ranga 3Cs, and on average, the Premium Ebonite pens came in about 5 grams heavier when capped. Since these are handmade, it would not be surprising that there may be a few grams difference in weight within the same model and material.

The Ranga 3C, as noted in my previous post, is their Special Ebonite:     27 grams and 16 grams uncapped.

The Ranga 4CS, as noted in my previous post, is their Premium Ebonite: 28 grams and 18 grams uncapped.

I forgot that I also have a Ranga 3C Dedicated Eyedropper in their Regular Ebonite: 23 grams and 13 grams uncapped.

This is by far my lightest Ranga pen when empty, but once fully loaded with ink, it might be a wash in overall weight.

I think that visually, the Abhimanyu works as a brass pen due to its nice form. It's not just a straight stick of metal. The curves are nicely highlighted by the shine of the polished brass. But would I use this pen? Not at that weight
