New guy looking for some help please

Dear MB network

I am a new member on the FPN and am about to make one of those posts/requests that no seasoned collector or expert wants to read let alone entertain but I have very few options from my current country of residence. I have been collecting MB pens for a few years now and although I am completely in love with them I am at a point in life where I need to let go of the majority of my collection. I know very little of how to value these wonderful items and I always bought what I loved rather than what was hype or hip at the time. The issue I am having is finding reliable sources for pricing information so I do not get shafted by valuations here and there. In my other collecting fields such as Comics or Nihonto there are documented, certified, price guides and tutorials that help but when trying to gauge the market on pens...minefield.

I know that as with everything condition is paramount and if pens are still sealed even better, but how to realistically gauge the valuation, no clue. So, I am sorry to ask for the obvious, but can anyone help guide me here? I am attaching the pictures as they are. The pens in these pictures have never been used and all have their box and papers with them. The ones I have used I am keeping with me :)

here goes:

finally

The Guggenheim box is slightly damaged, lacquer finish chip on the corner of the box at the back which cannot be seen in these pictures.

Also, I have the Inks that accompany the special editions but they are not pictured here.

Search eBay Sold Items (be sure to exclude Completed).  But that will only capture the 90 days prior. That's good, you are seeing "today's" value but it's not good if sales are thin to none within that timeframe.  Or try an auction aggregator site such as liveauctioneers.com but you will need to register to see Sold prices.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to gauge the value of a pen. Basically, it will depend on how quickly you want to sell them. If you want to sell them quickly you can offer them to a profesionnal seller who will be able to buy your entire collection all at once but as he wants to make a profit you will have to sell them at a lower price than if you were to sell them yourself directly to another collector.

Here is my estimated value range for some of your pens :

- Guggenheim : 1 800 to 2 100 euros

- Tate : 1 900 to 2 200 euros

- Maecenas : 2 900 to 3 300 euros

- Twain set : 2 100 to 2 400 euros

Is the Einstein a FP version ?

The Einstein and Meissen are heavy hitters, and with those it might be worth going to a real auction house. From the number I believe you have the black, and the only one I can find for sale is asking $22,000 (the white goes for less, more like 6,000-7,000, but I've honestly never seen a black outside of this one, I see the white much more often).  The Einstein is in the low tens. But pieces like these are hard to find a buyer for.

You can check old listings on ebay, but be mindful that sometimes someone lists a pen for a song without realizing it, and if it's the only one that's been listed in the last 90 days you'll get a wrong idea of value.
