100th Anniversary editions

I admit HJ's pronunciation is strange. Anyway, that pen is not 149 at all but a different MB big pen.

Just in my centennial Meisterstuck 149.  Luckily I was one of only three receive in all of Canada.

The body is black and a blue “Ink Effect” only in the cap (also black).  Very nice and very visible at certain angles or in bright lighting.  The clip featured in the collection is a homage to the many different clip versions that existed during the 1920s and the balance in the hand is excellent and it appears to be just a little more back weighted.  The medium nib is super smooth and wet (too smooth for my taste - I would have liked a little more feedback or an EF).

@DimitriDiak These 100th anniversary models are quite polarizing; loved by some and hated by others. Of all of them (so far), I actually like this 149. I wish it didn't have the metal piston knob, but then again, you can't have it all. Any info if other models will be introduced?

I really love this one, very understated compared to other releases but very well thought out and a great homage to the Meisterstuck heritage.  I also like that it is different from my other 149s.

Yes, there will be an official announcement soon but I think they are just getting us warmed up.  If you listen to the Montblanc Director of Writing Culture she said that they have “spoiler alert … many collections waiting to be released throughout the year”.  She also talked about a lot of projects and programs; so hold onto your $$$ and stay tuned; the one thing that is not sure is how limited this first release will be and if there will be enough to meet the demand.

I really like the material of the marbled cap, it's stunning and subtle at the same time. And the monocoloured nib is perfect as platinum group metals fit very well for dark pens. Montblanc should provide them as standard alternative to bicolour.

Enjoy your new Meisterstück

Thank you Todor.

Even though I love the classic black and gold tradition, I feel that by replace the old clip with this vintage clip design and new resin onto a platinum-trimmed 149 that they have elevated this well-know classic to a new and more refined, timeless elegance, with a sporty sophistication that sets it apart from the old tradition.

I sure hope they continue this trend but I fear this will be limited to this release.

The last photo shows very well the swirls of the marbled resin. Beautiful!

This reminds me of the first pen I bought with my own money as I was student at school, a dark blue marbled Pelikan with a fantastic BB gold nib and I still have this pen.

The MB full-rhodium nibs come from time to time with special series and yes, they look special in the best meaning of the word. 😊

Just a "funny" detail: in their OFFICIAL page, the Legrand pen is photographed with the nib partially unscrewed from the section...

Not something you'd want to see from such a luxury company...

Agreed. There is no event launch, and it is already being sold. Is this the "most important" collection to complete a remarkable 100-year anniversary?

No, just in the online store of Montblanc, there is never lot of pieces available and they are in few minutes/hours/days out of stock. Probably new pieces will be back in stock in the coming days or weeks.

Actually I have the special tool at home you need to screw it in. MB nibs are placed in an assembly group and with the tool you don’t need to put pressure on the nib.
Got the tool last year from a MB restorer, who from time to time is producing small batches of the tools needed.

But you would still need their special black seal for these new nibs which is impossible to obtain.

It depends from which MB production era is your pen. However the restorer has good information and photos. You can ask him for advice if you need the sealing wax for your particular pen as many of the modern MBs have precise and sharp screw threads, so wax is not always necessary.

Talking about the 100th Anniversary Edition I would try maintenance without sealing. Of course, such in-depth cleaning is only necessary if you change ink colours and sorts frequently.

I’m a sucker for blue so I like both of those versions by default. I don’t even mind the metal work on the Doue which isn’t something I normally would like. The ball clip is a definite downer. I get wanting something distinct for the 100 year pen but wish they found something else. Looks a little stronger and better designed than many ball clips but I’m still not a big fan. Overall I still love the blue.

Why is the ball design bad? Bad looking or bad for the functionality of a clip?

Purely aesthetic. And I don’t think it’s awful, just not something I like that much. Maybe if I see this model in person my opinion would change.
