I didn't realise that in order to post here in this thread that we are expected to have read all previous pages, and remember who said what!

@Scribs I apologise for causing offense; you are correct: only artificial intelligence is expected to have perfect recall.  For the rest, the page number was included for the sake of convenience in case one wished to review earlier posts.  Highlights were included to facilitate speedy perusal.  Any implicit criticism or disapproval was unintentional.

I am much relieved to hear I haven't offended NoType. 🙂 I hope I'm rembering correctly that you are the lucky recipient of the Traveller, and hope the wait for its return doesn't take too long. I think a lot of us are happy for you, and eager to hear more after you have a proper chance to familiarize yourself with it.

I was told a completely different story here in the Berlin boutique

@Scribs Now this has made me sit up, abandon my shamefully indolent slouch, open my eyes, stir from my Sunday somnolence, and take notice.

I see little point in repeating it

On the contrary, a different story from Berlin, of all places, carries a great deal of import, kindling a strong interest.  Pray, are you able to provide any details?

It has been incredibly frustrating for lots of people.

Now, this is truly unfortunate.  One struggles to understand the thinking here.

@Scribs Thank you for your patience with me, and especially your kind words.  Yes, your memory serves you well.  I am the lucky recipient of a relative’s largesse.

Truth be told, as clumsy as I am, I fear that Montblanc’s “new filling system” (NFS, Montblanc’s acronym) as showcased in the “Meisterstück Traveller LE 1924 Fountain Pen 149,” the Traveller 149 for short, is as intimidating to me as Montblanc’s official name for this model is long.  I have a difficult enough time not leaving marks on my piston fillers when inking, and when flushing three dozen or so times to try to eliminate the slightest trace of old ink; rest assured that I will have set the most detailed YouTube tutorial for the NFS that I can find on repeat play to study when the pen is returned from the nib exchange and I begin practicing filling and emptying the pen.  Naturally, as is my wont, I will probably fall back on the bad habit of venturing into inane and exhausting minutiae about the experience, so I promise to try to be a ruthless editor before posting my thoughts.

Thank you for your wishes that the wait for the complimentary nib exchange (M to O3B) is something less than interminable.  The pen will be dropped off at the boutique later in the coming week — I will report back at that time if anything unexpected unfolds, but from my brief phone conversation when setting up the appointment, it sounds like the pen will be treated like every other pen brought in for a nib exchange, so it is most likely that my story will lack drama.  (Which is my fervent hope; the last thing I want is some strange crisis to erupt during the boutique visit that complicates the complimentary nib exchange process.)

While I have no doubt that Montblanc was wrong in his predictions regarding the acceptance of the 149 model in The Origin series, I also have the impression that different markets have reacted differently, so that in addition to an error in estimating quantities, there has been an error in allotment in the various geographical areas.
A brief search online has allowed me to see that the 149 The Origin is still available in many Italian shops, even those with a solid reputation, because  the reaction of the buying public to this model has probably been more lukewarm in Italy. To name just a few shops that still offer the pen:

La Stilografica Milano

La stilografica Ancona

Stilograph Corsani

Stilofetti

Sanguineti

De Santis

La Casa della Penna di Napoli

Collectible Pens

Gioielleria Cola

and provably many other.

All of these make online sales and many, I believe, apply tax-free for non-EU purchases.

@fpupulin That the reaction in Italy was lukewarm I find intriguing.  And thank you for making the point that international markets have not responded monolithically to The Origin 149.

Finally, providing this list is most generous.  I am certain many readers in addition to @Scribs and myself will find it very helpful.

As I understand it, @Scribs, there was no polemical intent in @NoType's self-quotations. It was, I think, simply a way of indicating that the information was not "fresh" or current, but rather dated back a certain time (and a certain number of pages).

@fpupulin Thank you very much for this elegant and eloquent explication.  In addition to catering to the reader’s convenience, this was exactly the message I was attempting to transmit.

Has anyone tried any of the 100th anniversary inks yet?

Along with the 149 The Origin, @sandy101, I purchased two inks from the Meisterstück The Origin Collection, the Blue and the Green.

Below I am posting two images, where the inks are used on two different types of notebooks, a large Moleskine and another made in China, which does not have any name, but which has a rather good paper. I then wrote a few lines on a satin Fabriano watercolor paper, much whiter in color, so that the color of the two inks could be better appreciated.

The Meisterstück The Origin Collection Blue ink is more original, a Royal type blue but lighter, as if I were looking at an old school notebook with the ink a little faded by time.

The Meisterstück The Origin Collection Green is a saturated color, dark but still without any doubt green (not a blackish green). It seems to me that, perhaps together with the Coral - which I don't know -, the British green is a bit of an emblem of the celebration of the hundred years of Meisterstuck. It has been reprised in some pens and in many leather goods, which I honestly found beautiful when seen in person.

I am happy to have purchased these two inks, which I will use sparingly.

So that the characteristics of the nib would not prevail over the tones of the ink, I used a 149 with a very standard nib, a Medium that I believe must be rather similar to the one supplied with the 149 The Origin at the time of purchase. Always on a personal level, but I find that the Medium nib of the 149 is very pleasant for regular use.

Thank you for the reply. The blue does indeed look like the pale washable royal blue used in schools. I still have a bunch of cartridges with that stuff in it - so I don't think I'll buy this one.

The green looks like a nice though. A nice, readable forthright green.

A good colour for Xmas cards I think.

As you mentioned it, @NoType, here I am posting a photo of my desk. Since a few days it “permanently” hosts a third Meistertück, the 149 Origin, together with the 149 Calligraphy and the WE Hemingway, which have had this privilege for several years now.

This writing set will be  substituted, in a few days, when after my birthday the official Christmas season begins in our family. As part of the Christmas decorations, the resin and crystal set will make room for a Meisterstück set in silver and lead crystal, with its Pinstripe Solitaire, which will match the bright and festive colors of the upcoming holidays.

It is useful to know that the 149  with the Medium nib is very pleasant for regular writing.  I have a new Meisterstuck  The Origin Collection Legrand fountain pen arriving soon and was deciding what nib I want.  I am thinking of the Medium nib. I got it to use the fountain pen as an E.D.C.

@Tom Kellie Coming from someone as skilled behind the camera as yourself, complimentary remarks on photography are high praise, indeed, and even if I am unsure if I am deserving, good manners will only allow me to accept them with gratitude.

Participating in this amazing subforum of The Fountain Pen Network is resulting in my launch onto a learning curve for using an iPhone camera, voluntarily or by sheer necessity.  For example, I have recently discovered that tapping on an object on my screen directs the phone lens’ focus, common knowledge to probably everyone using a smartphone, but news to me as one who has remained wilfully ignorant until now.

Thank you for your kindness, which seemingly knows no bounds.  Truly, you have been an inspiration to me since I first discovered The Fountain Pen Network, and everything I do here is in emulation of your own innumerable contributions to this community.  Thank you immensely for illuminating the path.

@Toll Thank you for clearing up my misapprehension.  So the boutique was able to sell 5 sets of the 149 Traveller, which is limited to 1924 pieces each.  Yet they have not received even one example of The Origin 149, which is not a numbered limited edition.  This is a stark illustration of the low supply and high demand of The Origin 149.

I apologize for a delayed response — yes, your summation is spot on!

Here's another shot comparing the Blue and the Green inks of The Origin series. The first two lines on the left page, as well as the last four on the right page were written with MB Midnight Blue.

The Origin Series Pen colours.  I have been reading this post with interest as I now have two of the The Origin Series, the Doue LeGrand and the 149. I may of missed it in this thread where the actual pen colours as defined by MB are discussed here? From the booklet that comes with the pens, the pen colours are Coral, Deep-Black, Azure Blue and Malachite Green. The Deep-Black and Coral tones reflecting 1924 tones and Azure Blue and Malachite Green are shades from 1928.  I am enjoying the 1920's throwback colours and styling that MB has put into modern pens.  Both my pens nicely complement my collection.   I hope the actual colour names assist in some way....

@thirstyfish Thank you very much for bringing up the official names of The Origin Collection’s colours!  This information as well as the dates of their introduction help us appreciate the throughline that Montblanc has drawn from then to now.

I will try again to reach a boutique manager before the end of the week and then report back

@Amit. @digitorum- Leonardo_W @Seney724 @fpupulin et al. I finally managed to speak on the phone to three boutique managers who knew me well, but although all were unfailingly polite, friendly, and chatty, none of them could share any information regarding whether Montblanc will release new product in these final weeks of 2024 to celebrate the centenary of Meisterstück.  If it does occur, they all seem to agree (each in a separate phone call with me), essentially, that the new release will be as much news to them as it is to us.  So, unfortunately, I have nothing substantive to inform — or even the flimsiest of rumour to titillate — anyone here, more’s the pity.

@NoType Thank you so much for the update. So it seems we should go back and enjoy all that Montblanc has given us during the year !!

I used to find Medium nib unappealing as I would ask for nib exchange all the time.

But I recently found a NOS Montblanc Solitaire 146 Stainless Steel in Medium, it wrote so well out of the box that I decided to keep it as a daily driver with the luscious and smooth Medium nib!

I am sure you will love your Montblanc Legrand. It sure fits my hand perfectly even though I prefer the 149 size.

Nice to find out there are others who also found the Medium nib initially unappealing like you and me.  Thanks for your feedback.  Just got late delivery  notice, so I guess Montblanc is having trouble keeping up distribution of some models of The Origin Collection pens to the bigger authorized stores.  I also prefer the 149 size, but I already have the 149 Calligraphy Flex Nib Special Edition.
