100th Anniversary editions

Considering that the Meisterstück is the main collection, I do believe that throughout the year, we will have more models coming up - also because MB did this with this collection with immense variations (they will not lose the opportunity in launching dozen variations of the same theme, specially for an anniversary!). Keeping that in mind, I'm not sure about getting one of those models, mainly because of the prices that are too high for what we are getting. We can probably end the year liking 10 or 20% of the models they intend to launch (? talking more about myself).

I like them too. But I'm not sure about getting one for my collection. There's a huge difference between like, admire, and buy, in my opinion.

Yeah, well, that was before the photos of the 149 appeared...

Given that the 149 is my favorite MB, I might have to sell a kidney or something to get that one 😁.

The marble-like resin in the cap is interesting! However, I prefer Dumas/Poe/Wilde instead (and I have all of them).

I'll agree with this. If they do a larger green and gold one I could see buying it,  but not if it's going to be $1300

Exactly. But the range prices for 1,300 as we can see in the eBay auction is for a regular resin 149. I cannot imagine the other prices of doué or solitaire, or even other variations with 'superior' designs.

I like them too, but I still prefer all resin models. Still, I have the 146 Petit prince series with metal ends, and I think that for a 149, given the scarcity of variations, it would be a great addition.

Oh, no doubt!

Of those I only have the Dumas, because I prefer fat pens. But the Poe is one of the most beautiful Modern MB!

But you see what those have in common right?

They are not cigar shaped!

I would take a flat top all resin (not black) MB over a cigar shaped any day of the week!

I also don't like the prevalence of metal in the latest models, particularly the WE. That's why I haven't purchased one since I started collecting pens in 2015

(to be honest, I did buy the Exupery and Doyle, but returned the Exupery and gave up the Doyle before shipping).

I think the scarcity of 149 variations is short lived.  First the Orient Express, now this,  I suspect we are seeing the start of a growing trend.

Oh, I completely agree. Just like they launched some color for the 146, we might see some (limited, I believe) range for the 149.

But, hey, I'm also likely to be short lived, so I better enjoy it while I can 😁.

Yes, but I was talking about not the cigar shape but about the marble resin. I like the cigar shape of MB indeed (I have the full resin collection for Le Grand and Classique).
A flat top for the anniversary would be really nice!

I started my MB collection in 2001 (!). No I have 60 (I reduced the collection and sold all non-MB pens I had in 2014/2015).

I agree with you, since variations of 149 is showing to be another market niche to be explored by MB.

Very disappointed in all of these examples. They're just ugly. I'd rather look for something like a Purdey or a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle LE 1902.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

To be fair, a Purdey is what, $4000?

True, but I'd rather save for what I want than spend what I have on something I don't want. I love the way Montblancs write and I love their inks, but many of their designs leave me cold. These 100Y pens are among that group.

I agree. That's why I devoted my pen budget of 2024 to desk accessories that I don't have (the four desk accessories from the 90s).

Of course for the price of a 149 back a few years ago, I got TWO Pelikan M405s, including the M405 Stresemann....

ETA: And of course fit my hand way better than a 149 does, as well....

In the booklet shown in the Ebay advertisement, I noticed a #35. Is that for historical interest and context or is this a re-issue? I have an original and it's one of my favorite pens: flexible nib, classic and restrained styling, reasonable ink capacity, too!

I see!

I don't dislike the cigar shape, but much prefer a flat top. But, of course, I would love even more a marbled resin, in any shape.

I, unfortunately, have not been able to restrict my collecting to just one brand (or period).

Even though I started collecting in 2015, I believe I acquired my first MB in 2018 or so, and now I must have around 25 of them (but, they are just 5-6% of my collection, I'm somewhat ashamed to say). From time to time I do toy around with the idea of decreasing the collection and focusing on some higher end pens, though. But it seems that for each pen I sell, I buy two to celebrate! 🤦‍♂️

Ah, yeah! I'd love if the pens that fit my hand better were smaller ones!

The hobby would be way cheaper (or maybe not, sin e there would be more choices 😁).

I already have a 149 in my collection. I'm not likely to want to add another. If I do get a 100th Anniversary I'll much prefer the 146 LeGrand size for writing.

n+1
