@Seney724 The link you generously shared more than two weeks ago still shows availability — my All Hallow’s Eve gift from a munificent relation originated elsewhere.  I just received photographs of my incoming “October surprise,”

which will arrive (in November, obviously) from overseas in what one can only hope is one piece.  If the transport deities choose to cast a benevolent glance my way and everything proceeds smoothly, I plan on submitting the pen for a complimentary nib exchange from M to O3B, so we will see how the local boutique manages that request.

It will be a few days until the parcel is delivered to me, and then undoubtedly several additional months until the nib exchange is completed; thus, delayed gratification is the order of the day.  Needless to say, this lavish gift was wholly unexpected and has left me in a state of extremely grateful shock.  Until it is in my hands I will be uncertain of its reality.  Trick, or treat?

You @NoType are one lucky person; and seems it is not such a bad thing to be "shocked" in this manner once in a while

The Gatsby collection (which has been known about for a while) seems to have been given the formal Montblanc release over the last few days:

Not personally enamoured with the Lamy-esque clip (supposed to represent a money clip, apparently).

I must confess that the design does leave one a little perplexed about MB's market research

I can imagine that the wait should be thrilling…

Congratulations for such a fabulous gift!

Wow, @NoType, what an extraordinary gift!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing this exciting news with us.

I think it is wonderful that at least one of these incredible pens will end up in the hands of someone who can fully & completely appreciate both the been and the larger context behind its production / release in this, the 100th year of the Meisterstuck.

Once you have outfitted it with the O3B nib it will surely be "one of a kind."

We will all anxiously wait along with you and look forward to your ongoing updates.

Happy for you!!

@a student This apparently is indubitably the case in this particular instance, which flies in the face of all prior experience, for normally I consider myself a perpetual beneficiary of the effects of “Murphy’s Law” (“anything that can go wrong will go wrong”) and thus I habitually keep a wide berth of bookmakers, casinos, lotteries, etc.

Fortunately, I have a hardy heart that can withstand strong shocks, though I admit to being nervous in light of my familiarity with the aforementioned Mr. Murphy.  Let us hope in this case he is otherwise engaged.

Thank you kindly for your positive words!

@fpupulin I very much appreciate all your well wishes!  Part of the frisson is from not knowing if all will be well in shipping, the rest emanating from the contemplation of the enjoyment of such largesse.

I have always believed that anticipation of some longed-for event increases one’s delectation when it finally occurs, and thus I am grateful for your hopes on my behalf that the denouement is worthy of the wait, in the final telling.

Many thanks for your felicitations.

@Seney724 Indeed, these were my thoughts exactly.  I hope my sharing proves not to be a bit premature (as I am a frequent beneficiary of Murphy’s Law), but my exhilaration could not be contained when I received the message and photos in the wee hours today  — nothing favourable on this scale has ever happened to me before.

Thank you for these very generous sentiments.  Though certainly others here will also enjoy this pen model, I am most grateful for your kindness.

I will take pains to share information of the gift’s delivery, my request for a complimentary nib exchange, and, of course, the eventual receipt of the O3B nib, as these episodes occur.

I think subscribing to Murphy's Law might be an overly optimistic view of life. It assumes that not everything has yet gone wrong and that some things are still OK. Is it possible, however, that everything has already gone wrong and that we are living in a perpetual state of FUBAR?😉

(If you don't know what FUBAR means you will have to look it up for yourself as proper manners and forum protocols prevent more detailed explanation. The term SNAFU could also be used.)

@yubaprof I must thank you for this welcome moment of levity!  To think that Murphy’s Law could be viewed through a lens of optimism!  Your postulation that we might already be caught in a perpetual state of FUBAR,* however, brings to mind theories of the universe and how states of matter affect living beings.

One such theory is that of Hindu cosmology, which subscribes to the concept of a repeating cycle of four world ages (yurgas), known as a yurga cycle, with each four-age cycle lasting 4.32 million years.  A yurga cycle terminates with the fourth age, Kali yurga, at whose end humanity’s general moral and physical state is at its lowest.  There is then a catastrophic event followed by a reconstruction of the order of the universe and then the yurga cycle begins anew with the first age when all living beings are at their highest, most evolved state.

I mention Kali yurga specifically because Hindu cosmology asserts that humanity currently exists in this last age of the current yurga cycle.  Kali yurga is calculated to have begun in 3102 BCE, and it will end in 428899 CE, when we, and all other living beings in the universe, are at their lowest, most devolved state.  So though it may seem to us now that everything has already gone wrong and we are living in a perpetual state of FUBAR, Hindu cosmology assures us that this is merely an illusion and that things can and will get worse (much worse) over the next 426,875 years to come.

It might be optimistic to consider that we are not yet in a perpetual state of FUBAR except for the small issue that the universe and everything in it continues to deteriorate and devolve throughout all four ages of the yurga cycle, and especially the Kali yurga age in which we currently find ourselves, so things will only carry on getting worse for those who come after us.

And there goes all the levity of your post.  My apologies.

@maia Thank you very much!  From your lips to the transport deities’ ears.

And thank you as well for being such an inspiration to all of us here; in part, I am following your lead, as well as that of @fireant and @digitorum- Leonardo_W, by intending to request an O3B through the complimentary nib exchange program.

I would never spend the $5100 for this, but I must admit it's quite a set (and the pen looks fantastic in person), and I'm surprised it's still available through their website. I wonder if Montblanc finally found the price where even a great LE lingers on.

NoType, thank you for the lesson in Hindu cosmology. Very interesting and indeed a serious challenge to my own theory regarding Murphy's Law. It occurs to me that I need to develop a much more detailed schematic of my theory. I'll keep you posted!

@yubaprof It was my pleasure, and I look forward to your fleshed out theory.  Fascinating stuff!

In the case of your 149 The Voyager, @NoType, the pen is already on its way to you, and in any case it was a gift, so my suggestion is irrelevant for this specific situation.
I have however had some success in requesting that the same store where I purchased the pen take care of the complimentary nib exchange.
The pen must, of course, be paid for immediately, but it is then the same store, through its channels, that takes care of sending it to Hamburg for the nib change and that receives it again once the work has been done. Only at that point does the store notify the customer to come and pick it up or to indicate where it should be sent.

This avoids an additional round trip, with the consequent anxiety typical of shipping...

@fpupulin I wholeheartedly agree that requesting the complimentary nib exchange from the point of sale at first time of purchase is the ideal strategy so that any shipping issues are the pen seller’s responsibility and the buyer has only one period of waiting.  This period may also be reduced because oftentimes an authorised retailer waits for less time than does a private individual for services like complimentary nib exchanges.

This time savings does not seem to apply to products purchased from the local boutique, however.  At least not in my fairly recent experience.  A purchase of a Grimm 1812 directly from the local boutique‘s stock two years ago married with an immediate request for a BB nib resulted in a delay of four months before the pen was returned to the boutique with the new nib size, a wait that was two weeks longer than when an aunt surprised me with the gift of a second Grimm 1812 from overseas (a Singapore boutique) and arranged for a BB complimentary nib exchange through that authorised retailer five days after I had already treated myself with my Grimm 1812 to mark a personal achievement, in an unplanned bit of “doubling up” on a much-anticipated pen.  Both pens, identical models, were turned in within days of one another for complimentary nib exchanges to identical size nibs, one from the local boutique at point of sale, and the other from an overseas boutique at point of sale, and the overseas pen gift was delivered to me two weeks earlier than the local purchase was returned to the boutique.

This time differential might just have been a fluke, for I have heard of others having followed your strategy for complimentary nib exchanges at point of sale during first purchase and being very satisfied by both the relative alacrity with which the pens were delivered with the new-size nibs and the hassle-free nature of the process.

My local boutique still has a 149 Traveller (130327) in stock.  I wonder if purchasing that model there and immediately asking for a complimentary nib exchange would result in a wait equal in length to purchasing the same pen set from an overseas boutique and immediately asking that distant boutique to first arrange the complimentary nib exchange and then ship the pen?  An expensive experiment, to be sure (and perhaps not yielding statistically significant results due to the minuscule sample size).

There is no doubt, however, that having a distant seller arrange the complimentary nib exchange is less stressful than receiving the pen and then shipping the pen back for a nib exchange, which will be what I will need to do when the 149 Traveller eventually arrives from overseas.
