100th Anniversary editions

I have both the pens filled the moment, but once they will b empty, I will try to switch the nibs, just to see if it is technically possible. In any case, I do not want having a completely gold nib on a pen that is completely platinum trimmed.

To my delight, even with the abundant flow of the B nib of my 149 The Origin, Montblanc's Midnight Blue/Black behaves perfectly, with no bleed through even on the reputably shoddy paper of a Moleskine notebook.

@fpupulin What an attractive proof of performance you have provided with this handsomely lighted composition.  Thank you.

Since both the Calligraphy Flex and the Origin have screw-in nib units, might one perhaps switch the flex nib to the Origin? The slightly added weight of the Origin would, I imagine, make the nib bounce wonderfully.

@Arcadian I wholeheartedly agree with @ak47.  An inspired suggestion made on my all-time favourite holiday of All Hallow’s Eve!

@fpupulin Now that @dbs has explained that this is a relatively risk-free activity for these modern 149 models,, we look forward to viewing the results of your generously proposed experiment with bated breath, and without guilt.

Is your pen made within the past 10-15 years? If not, you may have the old nib assembly where they're still using the pink bubble gum seal. Montblanc also puts a seal at the back of the pen, the piston side. They use some kind of clear rubber cement like substance. It's not as sticky as rubber cement. Almost like a very weak form of rubber cement. But I would rather take off the back piston side since the threads there seems to be more leakproof. Also, you actually have the piston keeping the ink contained.

My Montblancs range from 20 years old to the new Origins. I was thinking of getting the nib tool and the piston tool from PenTooling but sounds like I only need the piston tool if my aim is to grease the piston every couple of years. Other than to give the pen a thorough cleaning, any other reason to remove the nib? I've never greased the piston myself but saw a Nibmeister do it for me at a pen show and feel I can do it myself. Greasing the piston looked easy, is it as easy as it looks?

yep - with the more modern montblancs @Centurion, piston disassembly is easy - just don't overtighten when putting it back in.

So, I received a 149 100th anniversary edition today with a medium nib.

The cap is emblazoned with MB 1924-2024 and has a blue/white swirl like a blizzard on an Alpine mountain top

The medium nib seems a little narrower than my other MB M nibs.

The pen wrote out of the box.

It's a nice pen. With a very broad grip. I wrote a bunch of postcards with it.

The 146 90th anniversary pen I have is probably going to be an EDC. The 149 a desk pen at home.

@sandy101 Congratulations on receiving your The Origin Collection 149!  I was informed by someone at Montblanc that the project planners did not anticipate the high level of interest in The Origin 149, and so production was on a smaller scale than for the other pens of The Origin Collection.  There was a small increase in production when the planners realised their error, but total output was still dwarfed by the other pens in the collection.

There are no plans to produce The Origin 149 past the 2024 calendar year, and it is unknown if Montblanc is still producing them even now, so you and everyone who has managed to acquire The Origin 149 may consider yourselves fortunate.

It’s wonderful that you enjoy writing with the pen.  May it serve you faithfully at your desk for many years to come.

Congratulations for your new pen and this sumptuous way to participate in Meisterstück's 100 years celebration!

149 The Origin is a wonderful pen and I agree with you that its "natural place" is on your desk, at home, for your private pleasure.

Let us know what your ink of choice has been and... happy writing!

@sandy101 Another One.. Congratulations on your fabulous new pen!
I love mine and I tend to choose and use almost exclusively now compared to other 149s from my collection.

@NoType Thank you from that inside information about the 149 Origin, it makes them even more special now. And I am really glad that in some way you made me realize that it's a special one, when we talked about it.

Montblanc's misprediction is nothing to worry about. There must be a few thousand knock-offs ready, even if the imitation is not entirely successful...

@digitorum- Leonardo_W It is my pleasure, and I was also happy to discuss The Origin 149 with you earlier.  That you ultimately acquired the pen back then is a wonderful denouement, considering what we have been told now.

@fpupulin Were the nib and fittings of the pictured pen coated in ruthenium, we would have had a rough idea of how a Meisterstück Ultra Black 149 might have looked, had Montblanc chosen to create one.  The vast array and variety of imitation 149 models with metal cone which you predict to appear is a sobering thought.

Sunday. A gray day. Copying into my notebook, and partially translating into Italian, with my 149 The Origin, some drops of wisdom from the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer.

@fpupulin Appropriately nearly monochromatic for the day, with a lovely shaded ink, to boot, enhancing your elegant scripts, I thank you for posting this on a Monday, fitting, and for this sober composition, even more fitting considering the aesthetics and pessimism of this great philosopher of artists.

MEISTERSTÜCK TRAVELER LIMITED EDITION 1924

Just in case anyone is interested, this pen (which some have thought would not be generally available) is currently listed on the Montblanc USA website for USD $5,100

Availability is immediate.  In my area, for USD $26 additional, it could be delivered tomorrow!

https://www.montblanc.com/Item/Index?cod10=1647597356259072&siteCode=MONTBLANC_US

Please, don't rush to buy it all at the same time.  You might melt down their website!

@Seney724 The link you generously shared more than two weeks ago still shows availability — my All Hallow’s Eve gift from a munificent relation originated elsewhere.  I just received photographs of my incoming “October surprise,”

which will arrive (in November, obviously) from overseas in what one can only hope is one piece.  If the transport deities choose to cast a benevolent glance my way and everything proceeds smoothly, I plan on submitting the pen for a complimentary nib exchange from M to O3B, so we will see how the local boutique manages that request.

It will be a few days until the parcel is delivered to me, and then undoubtedly several additional months until the nib exchange is completed; thus, delayed gratification is the order of the day.  Needless to say, this lavish gift was wholly unexpected and has left me in a state of extremely grateful shock.  Until it is in my hands I will be uncertain of its reality.  Trick, or treat?

The Gatsby collection (which has been known about for a while) seems to have been given the formal Montblanc release over the last few days:

Not personally enamoured with the Lamy-esque clip (supposed to represent a money clip, apparently).
