@maia Thank you for helping to narrow down the time period before which 3B nibs were moved to the Bespoke Nib Program.

It's likely that the 149 booklet that came with the pen (inside the "big" box) mentions available nibs. I may be able to check on that.

Edit: available at the time, that is

@maia That would be most helpful and informative!  Many here on the subforum, especially those relatively recently joined members like myself with little past knowledge of Montblanc, would be very grateful for this data.

MEISTERSTÜCK TRAVELER LIMITED EDITION 1924

Just in case anyone is interested, this pen (which some have thought would not be generally available) is currently listed on the Montblanc USA website for USD $5,100

Availability is immediate.  In my area, for USD $26 additional, it could be delivered tomorrow!

https://www.montblanc.com/Item/Index?cod10=1647597356259072&siteCode=MONTBLANC_US

Please, don't rush to buy it all at the same time.  You might melt down their website!

@Seney724 Yes, I was surprised when the boutique manager with whom I had spoken over the phone yesterday — regarding the availability of an O3B nib on The Origin 149 — casually dropped into the conversation that they had a 149 Traveller Set (ident 130327) available for general sale at the local boutique, belying the rumours that it would only be offered to select and the “most valued” clientele.

Considering the pen set’s high tariff, plumping for an additional $26 for the privilege of enjoying it merely one day following purchase does not seem overly extravagant.  Not having to delay one’s gratification is always a temptation in American culture.

It has been available there for more than a week now. I guess, not many takers for 5K novelty item. Now, if they would sell the demonstrator they might see some action...

Seems everyone, all and sundry, have decided to follow your excellent guidance and the pen remains available

Ok, so here are some snapshots (2013 149 B and 2024 149 Origin Collection O3B).

My experience: service advisors not familiar with special requests / out of standard catalog items. ie: they have a case with the 8 "standard" nibs (EF, F, M, B, BB, OM, OB, OBB), and thus wouldn't believe that an O3B was available for the 149. I had to both show them Montblanc's website (attached) and they had to call someone higher than their pay grade that made my request possible to go through to Germany (otherwise I would be asked to choose from the suitcase with the 8 nibs). Fortunately, everything went through ok in a matter of roughly 4 weeks (faster than expected).

Regards,

maia

Wonderful news ! thank you for showing it,
my friend who got the OBB has the pen at MB quarters as we speak and will ask for the nib exchange for the O3B.

@sav Absolutely, they would!  One cannot help but wonder if Montblanc might offer the demonstrator privately to their “most select” clientele, the way this Meisterstück Traveller 1924 (ident 130327) was rumoured to be offered?

One also wonders if the few 130327 that appear now are the “leftovers” that were not snapped up by Montblanc’s very important clients?

@Heinkle Yes, perhaps by offering this filling system on 149 models that are not limited editions, at an accessible price point, as others had suggested previously.

I was about to order the Traveler when I realized that it came with black and blue inks! No red? No way! 😀

I am sure that it will sell out. But pens at this price point take longer to sell. I remember the 1914 Red that was priced upwards of $10,000. It took a little while, but it did sell out. Today, if you have $20K burning a hole in your pocket, you cannot buy one.

I would be willing to pay a little premium (emphasis on "little") for a 149 with this filling system, but only if is not black. With seven 149 at home, 6 of which are black (or mostly black, case of the Origin), I think I'm done with black MBs - I also don't care for variations of dark blue, dark burgundy or dark green anymore. So, it is unlikely that I'm the customer they have in mind.

@Lam1 I could not more wholeheartedly commend you on your choice!

Working with Sebastian Stolz and everyone at Fritz Schimpf is always an undiluted pleasure, and I for one am incapable of recommending them more highly.  Back in December 2020, Mr Stolz was only too happy to accommodate my request for a nib on the softer side when I placed my order for a Montblanc X Fritz Schimpf The Expressive LE80.  A pleasanter, kinder, more efficient person than Mr Stolz I have never had the pleasure of corresponding with, and, enjoying Fritz Schimpf’s superb service, I have turned to Mr Stolz on numerous subsequent occasions, each time resulting in greater happiness than the last.

In short, purchasing from Fritz Schimpf is the way it should be for any item, but especially an aspirational article like a Montblanc.

Indeed, Mr. Stolz is a class act! Very knowledgeable, professional and a pleasure to deal with.

He has been very accommodating.

The only possibility for me to buy MB from anyone else is if Fritz Schimpf cannot offer it (as was the case of the Orient Express last year - unfortunately, only MB boutiques had that one).

@Lam1 If I am not much mistaken — and that is always a distinct possibility, so please correct me — that would actually have been a discounted price because all I could find back then were $17k price points for the 1914 Coral LE333.  Jomashop offered one a few years ago for around $9495 and it seemed to have sold immediately, sans warranty, pre-owned and all.

But, it doesn’t show availability, so you might be correct that it has sold out.  Perhaps Montblanc is holding on to a couple of examples?

@Lam1 I certainly understand this sentiment, although dark green is still a tempting thought to me.  I found the near “British Racing Green” hue of The Origin Collection Classique to be quite fetching and, not being privileged to possess green vintage Montblanc pens, a somewhat unique look.  I would not mind another pen (besides The Origin Collection Classique Doué, whose cap I feel distracts from the green colouring) in green, perhaps in a lighter tone.

But, yes, Montblanc has released many variations of blue in the LeGrand size, and although the Bordeaux series is attractive, more burgundy models are not necessarily welcome.  The Montblanc X Olympic Heritage Paris 1924 LeGrand FP (ident for M: 131359) is interesting because it is not burgundy but instead a rich bright red with orange modifiers, an unusual “not Coral” hue from Montblanc.

You can find MB demonstrators if you search for MB skeleton. But I don't remember seeing a 100th anniversary skeleton pen which is surprising — maybe I missed it. Seems like an ideal opportunity to have an even more expensive anniversary edition than the already crazy expensive options. But MB's skeletons are generally not as widely marketed so maybe it was sequestered for only select clientele.

There is The Origin LE100 but absolutely not in the same range price of the previous "general public" skeletons like the 90th, Blue Hour or Unicef 😀

Congrats!

Nothing like an early Xmas gift to lift the spirit!! 😊

I know! I love them, you can select the OBBB right on the pen page online. Sebatian siad it might be a little later than November but that's okay.

I figured there probably was an anniversary skeleton but I haven't been able to find pictures of it. Knowing the prices of the "general public" skeletons I would not be interested in buying but they're fun to gawk over.

I feel ya. I bought an Asvine skelly so that I can use it and pretend it’s a real one.  I tried a friend’s (blue hour-if I remember right) years ago and I was wonderful.
