Rather, the Starwalker above is part of the 100th Anniversary of Montblanc, released eighteen years earlier, in 2006, to celebrate the centennial of the company itself.

I have one. Sadly it does not see much use, because the size and shape is not that comfortable for my hand, but it is easily the most special pen in my collection in terms of personal appreciation and emotional attachment. It was given to me by my best friend when we stood on the summit of Mont Blanc in 2017. It had taken us three attempts across three years to reach the summit, and we had agreed to exchange fountain pens when we finally made it. He got an early 80's 149 from me.

mine was purchased new in 2008 from a US Montblanc boutique for a discounted price of $455,

Oh man that is a sweet price. Thank you for this information. Looks like it's a choice between the pen you linked and the MB 149 with the engraving.

That's a very special story for a pen, or better, for two pens!

A bit of everything, Italian round script, daily cursive and a bit of lettering with 149 The Origin. On the sheet in the center, with the flexible 149 Calligraphy, I added a "third dimension", which to be honest didn't come out that great...

Day after day, I am getting used to the variation of my beloved 149 model, which until a few days ago I only owned in black with gold trim.

@Arcadian It is wonderful to learn that your Soulmakers Starwalker is imbued with such meaning!  Although regrettably the pen is not comfortable to use, it remains something to treasure for always.  We should all be so fortunate to possess a pen of such emotional importance.

@fireant Yes, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  My pleasure.  Unless your heart is set on the Soulmakers Starwalker’s diamond in the finial, I personally think The Origin 149 is a better option.

@fpupulin Thank you for this glorious post; I really enjoyed your “script sampler!”  And that includes your three-dimensional script using the Calligraphy 149 Flex, which to my eyes looks terrific.

How gratifying to hear that, daily, your The Origin 149 unlocks greater abilities and concomitant joy.

I am dithering. I already have three 149s, the Fritz Schrimp Italic Edge, the Calligraphy nib and one that /whispers I had Bokumonduh add raden and urushi to the outside-afraid that might be considered sacrilege here. That Bokumonduh work is on a vintage-ish 149 that a family member and I have traded back and forth for two decades.

@fireant I see.  Well, then, since you are technically sharing that lovely sounding “Bokumonduh-ised” vintage 149 (not a bit sacrilegious but rather an artful enhancement in my eyes) with an esteemed member of your family,  I believe it would be wonderful to add The Origin 149 to your remarkable duo of the Fritz Schimpf Italic Edge 100 and the Calligraphy 149 Flex.

I understand that a Soulmakers Starwalker represents a departure from what you already have, but, frankly, I don’t think that even the lowest offer of $845 for any Starwalker, even one with a 0.03 carat Montblanc-cut diamond, provides good value for money, considering that the many characteristics of a 149, and the commemorative nature of The Origin 149, can be enjoyed for a few hundred more.  And the price differential is much reduced when one considers that most of the Soulmakers Starwalkers are asking north of $1200.

(But, if you find a reasonably priced secondhand Soulmakers Starwalker in mint condition for several hundred less than The Origin 149, then that changes the calculus if a Montblanc-cut diamond is the governing factor.)

One can never have too many 149s... and the origin is very distinctive.

I have a 149 with an M nib (ground to a CI by Masuyama) that I have considered adding urushi, to make it a bit more distinctive. Would you be able to share a pic yours?

@fireant I wholeheartedly agree with @Lam1’s comment above, and second the request to see a photo of your “Bokumundoh-ised” vintage 149!

FPN didn't like the video so here is a google drive  link to it-basically just wiggling the pen around.

@fireant A gorgeous work of art!  Thank you for the images, both moving and still.

Oh I am glad you like it! At the Pelikan Hub a few years ago, someone had a gorgeous Pelikan that's she'd worked on for him.

I'd like to have her do another pen, I have a classique and several MB ballpoint pens I bought when stationed in Germany eons ago.

I think i want her to do a Nashiji gradation and red and orange speckled pattern in transparent urushi on the pen. You can see see what I mean if you look at her business IG account, she posted an Eboya with this treatment in Early March of this year.

@fireant This is an inspired idea and would look amazing.  Thank you for referring us to her IG account.

Wow! That’s a gorgeous pen!! Congratulations!

Now, I’m convinced!😊

If only I could figure out what I want… I know I’d like vermillion urushi and some pattern in MoP, but not sure of the pattern.

Thank you for posting the photos and making the video available.

Hopefully the appropriate thread; I am hoping to get the general consensus of if it would be better to pick up the Origin 149 first if it’s available, and the 146 Doue a little more down the line?

I was able to get a nice selection of ink and a notebook when visiting the Montblanc boutique in Ala Moana, also trying out their full range of nibs (the sales person lent me her pen in order to try out an EF).

Thus, I’d likely send out the 149 for a BB, and get the 146 with a fine nib. The Doue would be in memory of the passing of my father since his favorite color was blue (on that note, any idea if they’d be able to do engraving on the piston knob?)

@Lelouch I strongly believe it would be better to pick up The Origin 149 first, as soon as it is available, because not only is it the most popular model in The Origin Collection, but rumour has it that production lags behind demand due to some manufacturing hiccups.

I think the Doué  LeGrand will remain available for a while still.

@Lelouch I am unsure about personalisation on the piston cone, but personalisation on the regular flat clips is common.  Because the clips of The Origin Collection are curved, I am not sure if the company will engrave them.

With resin pens, personalisation on the cap is also available.  In the case of the caps of The Origin Collection, one may be able to request an engraving on the cap on the opposite side of the existing engraving.

I believe that the official company position on engraving is limited to initials or a name, but on occasion if a boutique manager happens to have their own engraving apparatus onsite, they tend to be flexible regarding engraving content and location, and may accommodate reasonable special requests.

Apologies for not giving an unequivocal answer to your question regarding engraving.

@Lelouch These sound to me to be ideal choices for nib widths and the same that I would select for my own pens.
