Found this interesting Montblanc 149 ... is it pre-1990? or fake?

As I read further on the pinned thread of MB149 dating chart , my MB 149 is around 1985-1990, but the chart stated the filler thread is made of black plastic, but mine is brass type, any clue ?

@auronthas if you are patient, persistent, and lucky… then you’ll want to get the real deal; an MB 146/149 from the 1950s. If you find an affordable one in a decent shape, then you’re in for a treat. Those old MBs have some of the nicest nibs ever made. In fact, I don’t think any pen in my collection writes as well as my MB 146 B from that era. It’s simply… sublime.

Interesting shared. As I read more on MB 149 dating and its history / development, I could understand more which MB is worth for collection and my recent acquired 149 for daily use.  Thanks @stric75

I love the softer, bouncy nibs of Pelikan pens from the 50's, are the MB's from the 1950's comparable in feel?  (I'm not a flex nib guy but really like a softer and bouncy nib as in Pelikans and Gehas from that era.)

@OCArt i can’t comment on older Pelikans as I have none from the 1950s. It’s interesting that Montblanc used to make some nibs for Pelikan a long time ago, but reportedly so did Bock. However, when it comes to the newer Pelikans and Montblancs, e.g., M800 and MB 146, I have to say that Pelikan nibs are better. They just have a nicer feel. But the most recent Pelikan nibs are not as nice as the older ones, e.g., the ones from 1980s and 1990s. Nibs changed a lot over time and they also differ a lot between the models of the same pen manufacturers.

@stric75I agree that the older Pelikan nibs are better.  I especially enjoy the ones I have from the 1950's as they are soft and bouncy.  Can you tell me a little bit about the MB nibs from the 50's?  Are they soft?  Thanks!

Hi,

Having “consulted” all my records, pens, published knowledge in dating the 149, I find yours may be a 1982-85 production (14K-bi-color nib, two-part-section, brass-mechanism-threading, “W.GERMANY, pistoncombination), @lampwater. Not sure about the box, but it should not really matter this much in dating a pen.

🙂
