What could a store do to help the community with meet ups and events?

Well I joined FPN in Aug, 2011 and I am finally posting something :)
Lots of reading and learning but now it is time to ask a question myself.

I am in talks to buy Penchetta Pens & Knives in Phoenix, Az. I have been a customer of Tony's since Penworks before he opened the store and his retirement is our family's chance to keep the store around for everyone. Don't worry Tony will get back to his lathe and keep turning the pens & shaving brush handles we remember.

My question to the masses is what can Penchetta do to provide a place for the community?

Host a Pelican Hub event? But that is only once a year?

Host a quarterly or monthly vendor rep or guest speaker?

Do you folks want a place to swap vintage pens?

I love my pens and use them daily. I am not a collector but love being around collectors. I buy a pen and wear it out (my kids bought me a new Vanishing Point after seeing the finish wear off my 15-year-old one).

This is NOT meant to be advertising, this is a chance for the community to tell me what you all want in a pen/stationary/ink shop.

you can host local pen club events or nibmeisters. both of those events are popular.

If you have the room, provide a teaching space with tables and chairs where people can teach others about fountain pens, or even have artists host workshops or demos in urban sketching or other kinds of art-making that involve the use of fountain pens. Such a space could also be used by a fountain pen club, which you yourself could launch and promote to get it going. Good luck with your venture! My brother lives in Phoenix. When I next go to visit him, I’ll look you up.

@oneleglance - did you end up buying Penchetta? I just went there for the first time last weekend! I'm looking for a local fountain pen meetup and don't see any. Setting up a facebook group for Penchetta shoppers would be a good idea, that way we can see who else shops there and then start to plan meetups, etc.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
