Got this antique Montblanc pen as a gift a few days ago, was wondering exactly which model or series it is. The nib says Iridium point Germany on it, it was bought in an antique store in Istanbul. Thank you in advance, if any extra info is needed I can provide!

I do not remember the name for "real" pen model  but yours is a kind of fake Montblanc, sorry to say.

Regards.

It think that it might be a fake of a ‘Starwalker’.

But, as it’s a fake, the name of the model that it’s a copy of is of limited relevance.

It won’t necessarily be made in the same way - let alone to the same quality - as the original Montblanc pen.

I wish you good luck with trying to repair it, but you may well find that doing so is not possible.

As with Rolex, there are probably more fake Starwalkers than the real thing.

If you want to use it then a flush through with warm water would be a start.

The plastics are often brittle on these copies, the sections (the bit where you hold, can crack)

I know nothing about Montblanc pens. What is it about this pen that marks it as a fake?

There are two very easy pointers but many more with side by side photographs.

The nib should not say IP Germany and the section is just cheap looking.

In their heyday the fakes were selling at less than $10. Some were actually well made but antique stores  in Istanbul are not known as Centers of Excellence and would not normally attract the best of MB pens. I just hope that serious bucks were not exchanged.

Thanks. I really don't know what to look for and that helps.

You can lose your shirt Dan, the pen in the pics is on the lower end of the quality scale, there are some fake pens that are not easy to distinguish from the real pen. Of course, if you are buying on line from anywhere other than a reputable outlet  you are at great risk of buying a dog, a three legged dog at that.

There is a huge pool of FPN knowledge on MB products on here and if you are ever tempted then just ask, the bottom line is that if you are in any doubt just walk away.

The greatest tip is provenance, if you are buying from a street market in Shanghai and the price is $5 a pen then you know what is coming, if you are buying from a trusted retailer who has a reputation to lose then you have better prospects
