I tried to get Budo to do something, I used two nibs, a Long Blade and a wet medium. but no dice.  Nada, Zilch, Nothing...

   Maybe it’s time for a revisit. I’m about to ink up the new pen, maybe I’ll try Konagi in a different pen. Don’t get me wrong, it’s gorgeous even if it’s not performing for me like it does for you. I just got a mildly shading blue out of my Sailor PGS MF. It might benefit from a different nib. I will also dig out the Iroful and Cosmo papers and see how they look on those.  
 

@Bo Bo Olson, I tried looking for Mondi 120gsm Stateside, let’s just say that I could buy a lifetime of Japanese paper for the price of a ream available to purchase. All of the Excompta products are easy to find and rather affordable here, so I have a bunch of Rhodia/Clairefontaine.

I got my  best results with medium nibs. Don't forget the paper. 😀 

 

And the Dipton Blue Flame looks OK from an EF nib.  I think you're right, Not too much sheen. 😀  I'll try it in some other pens. 😀

I know.....Mondi 100g was near as expensive. In my B&M, I didn't check the price...after all what can a ream of paper cost???!!!! At the desk I found out it was gold rimmed, bare foot stomped by maiden aunts.

 

I only got the 120 Mondi, in it was in a half ream...and had on my strong pocket pants. The money hadn't burned a hole through the pants pocket.

 

As soon as the roof of the apartment building I own an apartment in gets repaired, I'll have money for Japanese paper.

  Writing is a little bigger and messier than I’d like, but the rains are well and truly here- my poor stiff knuckles and bad hip are letting me know all about it.

  @USG I filled my new to me Parker 51 desk pen with Sailor Manyo Konagi. I tested on Cosmo Snow and it ended up being a fine nib, which was a surprise, as the tipping looks bigger than that to me. I was thinking it was a medium. The shading shows up well, but no sheen really. It’s lighter than Wonder Blue. Pictures and a comparison of currently inked blues to follow on both CAS and Iroful. I just have to get my chores done.

When one is retired, so many small things, prevents the paper chase. My wife's stove top replacement, my hard-drive replacement, saving for a new apartment roof...the little things.

At least the price of a case of beer is low...€6.99-9.99 when on sale.....and I have three more new inks to review.

Konagi doesn't sheen like ordinary sheening inks.  It's more of a subtle pink glow around the letters when under direct light.  If you look for it, you usually can see it by eye, then you can zero in with your phone camera and zoom to 4X. (this allows you to have magnification without blocking the light with the phone)  You should see the pink outline around the letters. The effect is much more observable with a soft, wet fine or medium nib.  I don't know how your 51 writes, but the three 51s I have are fines and extra fines and not particularly wet nibbed pens, so not good candidates for this effect.

 

I just took a pic at 4X.  It's not a sheen like Polar Glow.  It's more of a 'Glow'.

@USG, this is my finest 51, I think. The other three are pretty wet. It’s actually great for a desk pen, because I write small, but I was expecting a writing experience that was similar to the others. Next time use Konagi I’ll be sure to pick a pen that I know is a medium.

Some 20-30 years ago, I had a beer and kept it in mind. OeTTINGER, which comes in Pils, Export and wheat beer. It is good beer, not quite great beer, but it is really better than it's price.

Even real name beer like Bitburger can be had on sale, for €9.95. Other's normally run 12-15 a case.

 

I'm a bit out of range for Kölsch in that's 4 or more hours away by autobahn...on a good day. That is a Cologne/Köln city beer. Across from the cathedral, is the five Kölsch gasthaus's, each from it's own brewery....I only got to three of them....folks wanted to do weird things, like look inside the church, and hang around with tourists.

 

If I hit the lottery, Bamberg is where I'd move too. Some great beers there and 2/3rds of an hour away is Nuremberg (great beers to come).  I only bought some 12 different six packs of beer when we left Bamberg. With the right tourist guide one can find all the beers.

In Bamberg, they have a famous pork roast with such great crackling skin...something like 17th century Alexander Pope raved about in his writings.

I saw someone post about this ink, can't remember if it was here or on IG. If your Parker is still inked, could you bring it to the pen meeting? I'd love to see it.

  I see it a bit where ink pools. It would probably show better with a larger nib for sure.

I remember drinking this when I was stationed there. I enjoyed it but hated how bitter the foam was. I still remember one of the commercials, Abends bitte, morgens fit.

Every once in  while I talk face to face with brewers...ask questions to what hop they use.

There is a bitterness, and color scales.

American craft brewery did such a good job it woke up the German brew industry. Some 7 years ago, I saw a small bottle of  Brooklyn Beer go for €9 and be sold, at a better grocery store.

 

Before prohibition, American beer was a good as German and English.

Then beer was brewed illegally, and aged artificially.

 

When beer is not lagered/stored long enough it has a coppery bitter taste. Something I leaned when a beer company, usually smaller local brewery, tried to supply beer for a week long American/German Folksfest; and ended up having to supply beer than needed a week or two more of aging.

 

Keller beer is cloudy, tastes good, is and was a normal beer type.

After 12 years of chemically aged beer, folks had forgotten what real beer tasted like, and it's color...which carries the taste.

Budweiser and most of that era's American beers are @ 12 on the bitterness scale, because normal regular hoped bitter beer...was too bitter and made them think of fake aged beer....and they 'knew' from 12 years of foggy memory good beer wasn't 'bitter'.  It was clear....so American beer for many decades was make weak colored, and had to be drunk ice cold in there was no taste. And eventually absolutely colorless. = absolutely tasteless ice beer happened.

 

Middle Germany looks down it nose at weaker,  deeper colored Bavarian beer, and they look down their nose at stronger, less tasting beers northern German beers.

Strong beer is another question.

An Export beer....called that because of hopping (new in the 1500's, in before that, beer that is brewed with out hops was only good for a couple days. Such a brewery such as in Michelstadt in the Odenwald, it is best to drink the beer at the the brewery, if not by the second day one took the beer home.)), the beer would last more than three days...weeks... and could be shipped up and down the Rhine river from Dortmond. It has a bitterness from 18 to 21 degrees.

 

Pils/Pilsner @ the same. Pilsner costs a bit more in it is made a bit more premium. They are from 22-42 on the bitterness scale. I like the 33-35-36 degree beers often. Jever Pils is the bitterest or was the bitterest large brewery beer at 42 bitterness. Good in the summer. The real north German beer is more bitter than the south.

Danish beer, like Dutch beer is a disappointment. At least to me. There are a lot of good British beers.

And every once in a green moon a French beer will shock me.

I do like great Czechoslovakian beers. I don't know enough about the Polish beers to know how good the ones I've drank are...but they were ok.

Austrian beers....good but not my taste.

 

If traveling I'm not sure if Micheal Jackson's Pocket Guide of Beers is still made, but I always had that with me....I could go into a grungy looking Gasthaus, with better beer, when I had my guide  book open.   An Englishman, with mustache and two gloves.
