Very nice! Which one do you prefer in term of "feel"?

You managed to make Ajisai much darker than I ever did, even after letting some evaporate in a jar before filling.

I didn't answer your question about which one I prefer.  Each ink works well in the pen it's in but my preference is for the Nadeshiko because I'm partial to periwinkle and it shades so well.

Yesterday’s writing sample, description in the writing: large.IMG_0929.jpeg.8884821f82d00b6d99b4beb0d1fd45da.jpeg

Today I am having trouble with choosing a pen and ink. I chose my paper- a crème TR 52 A5 page. I can’t for the life of me decide what pen I want to use or what color I want to write in.

I've been following your adventures 😀 and I have a question.  What's the skinny on the Pearlescent Blue-Silver?

A dry Private Reserve ink? Color me surprised, every one of their inks that I have used has been really wet. Do you have a Pelikan? If you do, I would try it in that first. Thank you for the sample, by the way. It is very pretty.

The pen came in a really cute set; I can’t seem to link directly to the listing, but it should show up on the left side of this link- it’s a 6 pen set, but it’s also sold separately.
Yiren EF School Pen set

Thanks for the link!

I know, right (for the PR ink). That only made me want it even more, so I can either be pleasantly surprised or bitterly disappointed by the "I told you so".

I do have a M405 but it's really not doing much for me. More like a Meh405 :D (it's not even that wet)

And Kudos to LTM, I have all the original PR inks including the infamous Candy Apple Red, but Tanzanite is missing. Was it moldy and I threw it out, or is it  just misplaced?  (Speaking of Moldy ink, I have 3 bottles of vintage Pelikan Black that became moldy.)

Oh that sucks...

The original PR (before the Yafa takeover) were apparently infamous for their mold propensity, due (I quote) to a misunderstanding of the preservatives used 🧐

Yafa inks are not stellar either (speaking of which, my MV Carribean blue samples started smelling a lot like sulphur...)

The skinny on PR PBS is that it’s a lovely wet shimmer ink. It’s a beautiful royal blue with silver shimmer. I use it in a dry Nonami Chinese piston filler italic and at first, it was a bit too wet but it’s been a few months since I’ve filled it and it behaves great now. Some reviews say that the shimmer falls off when dry but I haven’t noticed. It is fast drying for such a wet ink.

How disappointing that your Pelikan is a Meh405. I would still try a sample of the green PR, because you never know- it might be what takes your Pelikan from meh to cool. My curiosity is piqued. If you get it, let me know what you think. The name is a bit off putting to me because of my mint allergy- let me know if it smells.  Did the Caribbean Blue sample I sent start smelling off? I have capped that whole set as tightly as possible and stored in a dark cabinet just so that one and the Capri don’t get gross, as I have heard that they are both a bit sensitive.

My PR Tanzanite is old, but I am not sure if it’s pre Yafa or not. It’s from Paradise Pens, and they’re not around anymore, at least the mall store isn’t. I should take a look at the packaging and see.

Pre-98 400's were tear drop tipped and springy regular flex that gives a nice clean line...post '97 are semi-nail double ball, fat and blobby nibs that don't really give the clean like of a tear drop or a vintage stubbed nib.

That includes the medium-large post '97 600/605 semi-nail....my 605 BB is now a stubbed B, that of course gives a nice clean line.

I have a W.Germany (small) 600 OBB that is a half a width narrower than  my 2000's 805 OBB.

................

I have a pre '98 nib size chart....in width narrowness....Conway Stewart was by far the fattest, then came Parker, Shaffer, Pelikan...Pelikan 800 had once it's very own narrower nib width....and narrow Waterman. This was before Japanese pens broke off the island. So they were not noted.

I am sure Pelikan is now wider than Shaffer, could be as wide or wider than Parker.

I am quite happy with '50-70 semi/maxi-semi-flex factory stubbed nibs or nice springy regular flex nibs of the '80 late '90s era.

Unfortunately some 4-5 years ago, Pelikan ruined the grand 200's tear drop tipped nib, buy going double ball on that. I use to really rave about that old 200's nib.:crybaby:

I'm currently using a Kokuyo campus notebook which arrived in the post today. A slim exercise book that lays flat.

I've used it with a Lamy 2k with Diamine Velvet Blue and a (50's) Parker 51 with quink.

No bleed through as yet, and no feathering.

The dry times are a bit longer, but it's impressive paper, and not too pricey.

I'm impressed.

It's not the same as KB business paper.

I didn't have good results with it. It Feathered with some of the inks I use.  Ajisai, Asa-Gao and Edelstein Sapphire. It didn't seem to be a high contrast sheening paper and doesn't show "outlining" in inks like Sailor Yamabuki, Kin-Mokusei, Konagi or American Blue.   Kon-Peki was OK out of a fine Wing Sung 601, not so much from my medium Vanishing Point.  Jack Frost and Polar Glow were OK.  Robert Oster NG Special and Pelikan Brillant Braun were both OK.  Surprisingly, the Jinhao X159 with Sailor Nekoyanagi, that feathered in a Maruman spiral notebook, had no trouble on the Kokuyo Campus and didn't feather.  Horizon Blue feathered, soaked in and penetrated.

To It's credit, Kokuyo Campus paper did not kill the ink colors like Stalogy Paper.

Wow, that’s about to take flight! On my iPad, some of the letters do look kind of outlined, but it could just be some sort of reflection.

What you're seeing is feathering... save pic to your photos, hold iPad horizontal, then open in photos and tap to enlarge, you'll see.

Oh I see it, it’s just shiny because it’s getting distorted by my vision problems. If it was any more feathered, it would crow at dawn.

Parker IM Monochrome Blue, Parker Penman Sapphire, Top Flight B5 composition book Made in Vietnam. A surprisingly good combination, ink doesn’t feather. I wouldn’t write on the reverse, but I rarely do.

Hi PGC,  What is less turquoise on Cosmo Snow and Iroful?

Parker Penman Sapphire looks less turquoise on this Top Flight notebook paper than it does on Cosmo Snow (or Light, for that matter) and Iroful; when wet at least. I need to look at it in the morning light now that it’s dry.

Above I was evaluating the ability of an ink to Sheen on different paper.

The next step was to see if Shimmer is affected in the same way.

To do this I made a shimmer ink from Robert Oster Blue River, which had no sheen or shimmer of it's own.  The Color was a light turquoise similar to a Ama-Iro so I added a little Private Reserve Plum to tilt it toward blue.  The result was a surprise.  Then I added some Wearingeul Glitter.  These are the results.

This the color I started with.  I did my best to capture it un-illuminated

I'd love to compare it to my Penman Sapphire but it's been sitting in the bottle for over 20 years and I have no idea how much water I'd need to add to bring it up to it's original color.

Some 10-12 years ago someone nice sent me a pack of Penmann Sapphire cartridges.

It was a nice enough blue, but nothing else. No Sheen. I tried it again this year. Needle filled. I have one cartridge left.

In a cartridge it is easy to get to the original color, in one stops a hair under the end.

For bottles if unopened...fill up.

But if opened, one had to call on The Forgotten Memory Department, to do a WAG.

Or one could slowly add water by the ml until it 'looks normal' to other folk's scans.

Back in the day of Penmann, no one, or few cleaned their pens**....so Penmann caused the pen to gunk up....and have problems. From what I read about Penmann, that was part of the reason. Everyone was sending intheir parkers for repair.

** I remember coming here and reading about having to clean pens ....and I'd never done that ever in the late '50-mid 60's.

In the ink section, there is a section for Alchemists, perhaps you can ask there.
