Jinhao 9019 Dadao Heart Beat Nib unbox

Hello Comrades,

I recently re-picked up my hobby in pens. And I start looking around for new purchase (that's all hobby is about).

Here is the Jinhao 9019 in Transparent Oliver Green (Jan 2024) with Heart Beat Nib M.

Also in Jan 2024, 9016 is launched quitely (my other post), probably there is never a budget for marketing, or just not bother.

I felt a bit lucky to realise the existence of 9019 last week, as it was launched in Jul 2023 with a banned cartridge center post. Some modification was done quietly afterwards, and the gold-bar-like turning post of the cartridge was replaced in transparent plastic. Much much better modern looking in my opinion.

My advise: buying a Jinhao, is a test of your luck. I tried twice. My first Heart Beat comes with a nib splitting with lighting curve, it is not like a product of cutting machine, but more of a result of Qinggong power.

Thanks for your post.  I recently obtained a bunch of these 9019s in various colors.  I'm using the transparent version now, and it writes beautifully.  The large converter holds tons of ink.

Yes, these are great pens and at a very good price, too!  I have one in the kitchen, for taking notes or grocery shopping lists.

Excellent photography! Thank you. Great pens too. On one of my 9019s, some ink has seeped between the top inner cap and the outer cap. I can see where this might be happening now. (Does you cat enjoy posing with your pens?)🐈‍⬛IMG_2963.thumb.jpeg.87e89fad36a9748e80045f73046b6af9.jpeg

@JWT, same thing happened to me too!  And only in my Jinhao 9019 of the same color.  I have been unable to get out the ink, but I was unwilling to disassemble the cap.

Maybe there’s a problem with this color of the pen? I have a transparent blue version with the regular nib and it’s okay. Also, I had a previous 9019 in this color with the Heartbeat nib and the inner cap cracked and separated. I don’t have a way of taking this one apart so I’ll learn to live with it.

Uh oh, I’ve got that color but haven’t inked it yet.

I wouldn't let that stop you, it’s still a great pen and I enjoy using it. What you might want to try is to keep the air space in the converter to a minimum. Since the ink capacity is so large, maybe the converter acts as an ersatz eye dropper forcing the ink to burp into the cap under some conditions?

Okay, I'll bite.  What's the advantage of the "lightning bolt" cut in the nib?  Does it increase flexibility?  Or is it mostly just cosmetic?

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Completely cosmetic, I’d say from using several in both sizes. The ‘heartbeat’ (as the maker describes it) slit is functional—I haven’t heard any complaints, but otherwise it’s just a functional ornamentation to like or not.

I thought this was an original design but apparently Bock has offered an almost identical one for some time, or so I was told, though I’ve never seen a pen featuring one.

If I remember correctly, that nib was an idea from Waldmann Pens (and made by Bock) for the Waldmann Edelfeder LE together with the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

There is a German expression "am Puls der Zeit" (freely translated "on the pulse of time") which is often used by journalists. The nib should signify this.

Caution: I could be remembering the story incorrectly.

The Bock nib is still available as 14k at fpnibs.com: LINK.

Very interesting! I guess I’m surprised no other pen makers have used it. There’s nothing technically inferior about it and it’s attractive.

Might have to do with the number of nibs you have to buy from Bock and with the uncertainty if the nib design meets the taste of "normal" buyers.

that is very strange for a leakage with such amount.

solution:

1. refill the pen only up to 70%, and nib up, then wipe clean the excessive ink in the feed. to create an equal air pressure between the resovissor and the atmosphere you are exposed to.

2. this pen is not air travel free.

3. pen is no good for EDC in 2024. maybe a ballpoint pen lives longer in trousers pocket.
