What Pens Do You Want?

Misfit

Recommended Posts

A Sailor Pro Gear Imperial Black with a metal section (like their Black Luster) or a Sailor 1911 Black Luster in matte black.  Neither pen exists.  Sailor must have mixed up my wishlists.

Either pen in any matte, dark color would do if it had the hardware of the Black Luster.  If Sailor did this, I’d be a little poorer but I’d own my first Sailor.

Well, you might get lucky on the Café Crème.  I lost the first one somewhere around Bowling Green a number of years ago, so it might just turn up in that area at some point.

Ruthe Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

If I get that lucky, I would let you know and you will get your pen back!

Thanks, but I really don't need two of them.  I'm being really careful with the current Café Crème, and it's mostly NOT going to be leaving the house....

Geha 790

Look in German Ebay,t he auction section....should be about €60, the last time I looked. Look in Everiteret or advanced, to see what they sold for.

Do use the Auction only (why pay Stateside prices of Buy Now?)_, they have to take paypal and ship outside of Germany.

There are some that don't and won't.

I have  four 790's.

This one is @ 1959, with three true rings. They polished up nicely.oWb4qI2.jpg

The others from @ 1960-70 have three stamped rings.FcMRU9x.jpgWotaRYp.jpg

The nibs screw out. I won I thought an OEF but it was just an EF. I did not send it back because it was a maxi-semi-flex..:notworthy1:..instead of the expected semi-flex.

1932 Degussa the gold and silver manufacturer for Germany took over Osmia's nib factory for debt, and continued making fine nibs.

Two posters I respect said, that the 50-70's Geha nib was a tad better than the '50-65 Pelikan. I checked my 4 Gehas 790's vs 4 Pelikans of that era and they were right.

Degussa made Geha nibs.

So the steel or gold plated will be as good as their gold. So here  with Geha or with Osmia don't be a gold snob. ....Being a gold snob, cost me some nice pens, with nibs just as good as gold.....

One should get the pen for €10 less if not gold.

It is my contention everyone ordered their gold ribbon wheels from Degussa saving labor.

Osmia had a maxi-semi-flex often in the Supra nib, and the small diamond nib was mostly semi-flex. Two posters with 30 & 50 Osmias said often. not always.

If a book keeper said, move the cheaper gold wheels for more price, or if the warehouse worker was overworked and grabbed the first gold ribbon wheel off the rack. It would explain why MB, Pelikan or Geha never bragged their maxi-semi-flex nibs, that one runs into occasionally.

I have some 35 semi-flex nibs and some 15 maxi-semi-flex nibs...out side the Osmia's' in (1)Geha, MB (1 1/2) and a couple in Pelikan, and some other brands, and no-names.

So getting a maxi is luck of the draw....Osmia Supra might be a better buy when one is ready to hope for a maxi.

I did find the Geha nibs a tad springier in semi-flex and maxi.

The 780 is @ the same size as the Pelikan 400 and balances as good, a very sturdy make pen. Torpedo was ever so in, 120-140, Swan torpedo, MB cigar 146/9.

Advantage is the Geha has a reserve tank, so one can push the button on the bottom of the nib and write another page or page and a half.

Disadvantage is it takes a long tome to clean the pen out for a new shade of ink.

Thanks, Bo Bo!  Unfortunately, the least expensive Geha 790 is right now listed at about double that price...

I will be patient.

Are you up early, or staying up late?  I’m staying up late. The pen is a bit pricey, but who knows if or when Levenger will reintroduce it?  I looked at the pen closely, then looked at two blogs that reviewed the pen to compare to their images and descriptions. The listing does not identify the pen beyond Levenger True Writer. I do think I can see some of the colors the reviewers mentioned, like blue.

I should own up that I got the Kaweco AL Sport Vibrant Violet, and the Mercury Orange is ordered. I didn’t set my sights too high. I’m hoping if I get the True Writer Kyoto, I’ll stop buying pens for awhile.

That price you mention is on the rip you off buy now section. I saw on the advanced....erviteret section that shows the price items sold for....€80,70 & 39. As the prices that they were sold for at auction, and no one bought the jacked up price pens.

The professionals here in Germany set their buy now prices on the US market, who because of the high inflation of the last decades, don't think €100 is as high as Germans.

Get a snipe program, so you don't have to be up in the ungodly hour to make your last second bid. Or make only one bid and no other, and wait it out.................do remember you don't have to win now...part of the fun of the hunt , is getting the pen at your limit...+ 10% .....max. next week or when one has bad luck...the week after another  of those wpns will be up for auction.

Use ...only....the Auction section.

And think of all the inks and grand papers you can get by saving €80-100.

I did that....I had a choice, repair the pens I have, so they can be sold with good vibes, after the day.

Of, course auction house buys don't count:rolleyes:....in there is no hunting involved.

I recollect, back in the day, there were whole months when I didn't buy anything....whole months:yikes:.

Which has become normal, with pen repair.........it took me many years to get into that mode.

My offer was accepted for $5 less than the opening bid. I sure hope I’m right that it’s the Kyoto version. I’m fairly certain, but I’m going off photos. The pen has a shipping label for arrival on Valentine’s Day. If I’m good and don’t buy pens for awhile, I won’t be getting a Pi Day pen this year.

Up late, the perks of insomnia. Glad you got your pen!

Sounds like we’re both planning a pen no buy month or more. I got your back! 👍

I want to hope I can manage not to buy through September. I certainly have a lot of fountain pens, over 100. This would be the first time attempting a no buy time period.

Thank you, and well said. On a blog review, the writer quoted what Levenger said about the pen:  “a marbled mosaic of turquoise, lavender, espresso, and caramel.” The primary colors are Espresso and Caramel. I do think in one photo I saw turquoise. So exciting to think it is the pen, the Kyoto.

When you no longer are tempted by a new pen is officially when the no buy time begins.  I have MANY pens I wanted & few were not added BUT last year I bought ONLY one pen, a Sheaffer Targa in an early & elusive finish.

I NEVER say I "won't" because if I had done so I wouldn't have been able to purchase one of my favorites, I had thought was unobtainable, A Kaweco Sport, piston filled pen made by Visconti in a wonderful green marbled celluloid.  I don't regret many pens purchased & can also say I don't regret those I have not been able to purchase.

The time when you choose to not purchase will come when you are ready.

Today I am sending back a pen I really wanted because the one I got is broken. Having now held one and written with it has confirmed that it's right for me.

Wrapping it up to take it to the post office has left me feeling down...

They're not that rare and difficult overseas, but the shipping and exchange make it so for here.

Will work for pens...

That’s what I’m worried about, temptation and retail therapy.
