What Pens Do You Want?

Misfit

Recommended Posts

I'd love to get a few pens, but they are very diverse in every sense of the term:

Geha 790

Visconti Medici (in the original, brown/orange combination)

Pilot 745 Urushi burgundy color

I'm looking for deals on the latter two and just not looking, but hoping to find a good Geha.

Erick

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "EF" nib running Birmingham Railroad Spike

Penlux Masterpiece Delgado "F" nib running Pelikan Edelstein Olivine

Visconti Kaleido "F" nib running Birmingham Pen Company Firebox

Delta Dune "M" nib running Colorverse Mariner 4

I've always wanted to collect all the 200/205 colours, once I discovered how nice (and pretty) these pens were. I came by the way of an M405 in 2021, so already late in the game, most older models were past their sales cycles. It is fascinating to know that you have them all, a family picture would be really nice to see.

Thanks! I’m waiting for a green highlighter in the mail, plus I have those last two to pick up. I’ll definetly post a family pic when I’m done.

For some odd reason a lot of NOS is turning up on Japanese ebay. I’m not sure why.

Wishing everyone who posted good luck in one day fulfilling their pen wishes. I keep looking on eBay for a True Writer Kyoto.

With the clear understanding that I cannot nor will not buy any more pens, I want that Wordsworth set of four interchangeable nibs, and ink bottle, because it reminds me of an infomercial pen set I had in the 1980s.

And I found a reasonable replacement for my lost black and white marbled Huashilai 3000 in a little ol' Jinhao costing about ten bucks.

Oh, and not to forget looking at some cheapie retractables.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Congrats on the Jinhao score!

I have this terrible feeling that having blown the big bucks on the German brands, I’m going to discover inexpensive Asian pens write just as well.

Hmm.. it would be easier to list those that I "don't" want.

But, since it is what I "want":

- Namiki 50 vermillion (sometimes called Emperor). This one is a sore point, since I actually paid for it once and never received it. (LCdC strung me along and went bankrupt taking my money with it).

- MB Hemingway, Agatha and Poe.

- Vintage: MB L139, Pelikan 100 or 100n red tortoise and lizard, Pelikan 400 or 400n or 400nn light tortoise.

Some of them would be within range if I sold (quite) a few of the many, many pens in my collection (or if I stopped buying lesser pens...). Alas, I cannot part with any of them.😩

I would love a lapis Parker Lady Duofold. I also want a True Blue, both vintage and modern. Oh, and while on Parker- I saw a couple of prototype Ciselé models that I would love: a 45 and a Duofold International.

For cheaper, there’s a Wing Sung hooded 12k nib pen that I like, and for hella expensive, to get a custom maki-e penguin pen done by someone on a not so giant pen, like a 144 size or even a Platinum pocket pen size.

Top 5 of 25 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor 🐧 Mini Pro Gear Slim M, Van Dieman’s Neptune’s Necklace

Pelikan M605 F, Pelikan Edelstein Moonstone

Wing Sung 698 SF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Lapis/ Sapphire

Cross Wanderlust Malta M, DeAtramentis Columbia Blue-Bronze-Copper

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I hesitate to say 'just as well,' but they're almost always satisfying little workhorses.

Last year I bought a Pilot Vanishing Point, and a Moonman at half the price of the Pilot, same Fine or EF nib …. compared, contrasted.   Guess which I kept.

Not only do the cheaper pens write well enough, they come with converters. Hello Lamy and others!

None I can get.

The MB 149 (or 146) Calligraphy with flex nib (but it is out of my cash reach)

The so long promised, never delivered, Kaweco Sport metallic piston filler (which I have given up they will ever actually produce). And if they ever get it out, I fear it will be out of my reach too given the evolution of prices/salaries.

I have always wanted a cigar-shaped Urushi Aka Tamenuri pen, but like the MB 14xC it is beyond my pocket if I want a legit, good one (I know the Chinese have started to sell deceptive Wancher knock-offs on AliExpress, but after many years using Chinese products, I no longer trust the quality of cheap -or even expensive- Chinese products, specially shameless knock-offs).

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

@RedPie, Amazon Japan sometimes has really good prices on the Pelikan M1000 - might want to check every once and a while.  The pens take a while to get to the United States, but they do arrive.

I am somewhat impulsive when it comes to pens. I'll be looking around and something will catch my eye. If it's reasonably priced I'll pick it up. I wouldn't mind a Homo Sapiens. There are several Montblanc pens I'd like to add to the collection. I might get a bespoke Montegrappa. I've been eyeing a Victorian Grand Yard-O-Led.

Also, I'd like to get as many pens from as many different countries as I can. I think a global tour of fountain pens would add an interesting dynamic to my hoard.

I keep a spare lot of Lamy converters. When I see they're on sale off Amazon I stock up.

Pelikan Souveran M1000 Green Striated

or a Pelikan Café Crème.

Well, you might get lucky on the Café Crème.  I lost the first one somewhere around Bowling Green a number of years ago, so it might just turn up in that area at some point.
