Which Nib is best for Signature?

Good.

Some 15 years a go, in German flea markets,  I was use to testing a fountain pen's nib on my thumb nail, in even then I didn't like nails. I had not ran into a semi-flex nibbed pen. Then I put a Pelikan 140 OB to my thumb nail....and suddenly knew what all the fuss was about, having read about semi-flex on the com as real noobie.

 

If you get a semi-flex Oblique from that era, the pens are well balanced posted, and there is a trick.

Hold the oblique nib up to the light and see if the if the grind is the more normal 15 degrees, or the rarer 30 degrees.

I never quite kept count of how many of each I have. My impression is three 15 degree nibs to one 30 degree ones....and I must have 6 of the 30 degree ones. So eighteen 15 degree semi-flex stubbed nibs would be about right.

 

 

If 15 degrees, post and aim the clip right between the slit and the right shoulder.

Grip in air, bring the canted by clip placement nib to the paper and write.

There is no twisting the hand or arm around, nor must you hang from the chandeliers. Having gripped in air, just place it on paper and write...the nib will do all the rest of the work.

If 30 degrees, aim the clip at the right shoulder of the nib; grip in air, put to paper and write normally.....the nib will do the rest of the work.

Richard Binder once one of our best repairmen before he retired, came up with a trick, if the clip canting trick don't work.

Do not have the paper at 45 degrees, but at 90 degrees.
