What Pelikan Are You Writing With Today? (2024 Edition)

I'm sure you're sensing a theme. Today is another Pelikan M200 Demonstrator in Smoky Quartz with an IB nib filled with Diamine for Cult Pens Deep Dark Brown. Another smooth, pleasant, light weight, well-balanced writer with some nice line variation courtesy of the retrofitted Pelikan gold plated steel Italic Broad nib. It writes more like a broad cursive italic or even stub nib. I'm really enjoying it.

I was a fan of the Birmingham people when they used to import the Diamine inks in bulk and sell at very reasonable prices; but their owon inks look to have an amazing wide range.  Anyone else tried them?

Yes, Christopher, I’ve acquired a few over the years.  The gang at Birmingham seems to enjoy coming up with unusual colors/hues-many are a delight for fans of murky inks. Apart from 1 or 2 that were a bit too light to be useful, I’ve enjoyed writing with them and found them trouble free.  Remarkably, many are fairly water resistant despite not being advertised as such.  They have made a number of inks in the past two years which are advertised to have resistance.  I just received “Saltmarsh,” “ Ploughman’s Pebble,” and “Kenai Fjords” today, and plan to play around with them a bit later.

A theme?  A theme, you say?  Come, come: we all know you've got a one-track mind, DilettanteG!  😊

@Carrau: hello, sir.  Oddly enough, my M1000 didn't seem to like the (Birmingham) "oil beetle" ink with which I filled it (it almost dribbled out), so it is now filled with Herbin Bleu nuit -- and seems happier.  All the talk in other threads about these 1000 nibs and their apparent flexibility: I have decided that the most relevent adjective should be "sensitive".  Yes, there <is> some flex; but sensitivity galore!

M205 Olivine fitted with a 1.5mm italic steel nib filled with Jacques Herbin 350 Vert Atlantide. This dark, muted green actually has a lovely gold shimmer to it. I'm having mixed results picking up the ink's sparkle on camera as the intensity of it so dependent on viewing angle. In person, it's a lovely ink that this Pelikan has handled well without any clogging so far.

Went to ink this one and discovered an unused bottle of ink that I had no idea I had!

Paper is Kokuyo.

Very cool nib. Is it vintage?

Yes, the Waterman 100 year pen is from the late 30's/early 40s. They have wonderful nibs, but often the body of the pen has decayed. So, I had a few spare nibs and thought of transplanting one to a M800 feed: it's a perfect fit!

Yes, that is pretty much what I was looking for (plus the size and balance of the M800).

You definitely should look into putting a vintage nib in some of your pens (the M101ns, M200 and M400s are much easier, since vintage Pelikans fit).

Here is a favorite combo of mine (not inked at the moment, since I already have too many pens with red ink). As wonderful as the M101n nibs are, they can't beat vintage:IMG_8743.thumb.jpg.1b359ad518cabf0ecf63e73ba51ad34e.jpg

Cool, what kind of nib is it?

@DilettanteG Oh, I forgot to say.

I believe it is an earlier Pelikan nib (100 or 101, not sure), that came to me bent, in a lot of pens. I straightened it and changed the collar so that it would fit in modern pelikans, and it has lived in the red M101n ever since.

David

Wow, that Stresmann looks much better than the marketing photos I've seen. Also, that's a very nice cursive italic.

It's my Barbie pen today: the M205 Rose Quartz with a 1.0mm Italic nib and filled with Pelikan Edelstein Rose Quartz. This nib almost feels too narrow for this light ink. Might try a 1.5mm Italic next.

Happy Martin Luther King Day everyone!

Beautiful bird and ink.

But you are very brave to use a shimmering ink in a bird!!

Here is mine from today:large.IMG_8734.jpg.38f54b33be0f740714fa910d52903128.jpg

@Lam1 Well it is the ink that came with the pen. Pelikan wouldn't steer me wrong, would they? Also, nice Chronoswiss. I like the unique nib.

Two more M101Ns. The Lizard:

And the Brown Tortoise:

Kinda nail like nibs, but silky smooth writers.

My new (to me) M101N Originals of their Time Jade 1935 LE with a broad nib and Pelikan 4001 Dark Green. I love the featherweight feel and the comfortable posted size of this pen. Plus, that black piston filler knob holds the cap more securely than the M101N SE series. I can’t tell if the ink is too dry or this nib needs some work? It feels like it needs more flow and I have skipping if the nib isn’t positioned well against the paper. Maybe this is the pen I will try a vintage nib on?
