It's the beginning of a new year. Here is my early 1990s M600 Tortoise. I'm hoping to add another (3rd) bird to the flock soon.

Which Pelikan are you flying with today?

Not anything nearly as glamorous: the 1980s era NOS P1 Twist, F-ish nib (swag from last fall's Pelikan Hub) with Edelstein Star Ruby.

I like the fact that even low end Pelikans are good writers -- although I may have to find a better converter for the P1 Twist -- I don't think the connection to the back of the feed is all that secure.... 😞

Thanks for the reminder Ruth. I flushed out my Twist and refilled my cartridge with Waterman Serenity Blue upon reading your post. I wish it had a clip though. It's hard to grab it and go on the road with it.

No pics at this time but got a second edition 400 OBB loaded with Yurameku Suki Gokoro, a 400NN OBB with Pent Pen-house Kotobanoiro - Ame ni mo makezu, an M400 OB with Kingdom Note Med Tree Cork Oak.

That's how I'm falling into 2024.

May your flock increase this year!

Pelikan 100N with a 14k CI BB-nib. Ink is Pelikan 4001 Blue Black. This pen has been my daily use/EDC pen for quite a few years now (pen from 2016 and the nib a few years after that).

Paper is our office pad which is surprisingly fountain pen friendly :)

It looks like there's a bit of line variation with that BB nib?

I’d say, quite a bit (semi-flex + CI grind). Not that visible in the picture though, sloppy/fast handwriting.

You guys are going to tempt my into the world of Pelikan vintage flex at this rate. However, I do not trust myself with those beautiful antiques without adult supervision. I often write before the coffee kicks in in the morning and splat, I've dropped a pen nib down on the floor. Usually the more expensive the pen, the more likely I seem  to be to do this.

I'd like to apologize to my entire flock at this time.

And I forgot to say hello to @Baka1969 's rare M600 White Tortoise. Its smaller 400 White Tortoise set send their greetings. That is a beautiful pen.

It really is wonderful on this side of the fence... the tines are longer and more flexible, and those ever-wet ebonite feeds... whoa, the ink just flows better! Oh, the sweet joy of writing with a vintage Pelikan... ;)

I don't have one like that -- mine looks more like a Reform, but was packaged as a Pelikan (had to check with the Hubmaster, who was sent a list from the place who sent the pens out as freebies -- everyone who came to the Pittsburgh Hub got one, and we could pick and choose between the colors) to find out what the model actually was, and roughly when it was made.

I keep looking at the ones like yours, and wondering how ergonomic they are....

Today's bird has been the (third iteration -- because I keep losing them :wallbash:) M20 Cafè Créme, B nib, with Edelstain Topaz.

Well, well...apparently I am not a member of this particular club, because I have <no> Pelikans inked at present -- oh, wait: wrong!  I do have my two highlighters inked; but I don't <write> with them: I <underline> with them (surprise, surprise).  So...I think I shall fill my M1000 with something or other since I haven't had it in use for a while.  Now: what ink: that is the question...

Alright, the deed is done and I now have my 1000 filled with Birmingham "oil beetle" -- a new ink to me, bought for its slightly weird and beautiful green-y-blue look.   I was a fan of the Birmingham people when they used to import the Diamine inks in bulk and sell at very reasonable prices; but their owon inks look to have an amazing wide range.  Anyone else tried them?

They are nibs with their own personality, that's for sure. These obliques are particularly picky in their writing angle, the 400 is the oldest and that one has a very tiny window where it will write without being too dry or scratchy. Sometimes I forget and wonder what's the issue. Having said that, I'm used to the OBs, I just have to keep in mind that each pen is different. Modern OBs are much more forgiving.

I have a few of the Birmingham inks.  Sadly, I was not ever able to get one I have a couple of samples of -- their old Smithfield Street Bridge Truss Blue -- and not sure what the current equivalent is).

I also REALLY miss their B&M store in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood, back before they started making their own inks.  Went in one time a number of years ago to take a look at that year's Lamy al-Star SE (Pacific Blue) and it didn't make me jump up and down -- but looked to see what else they had in at the time, and walked out with a pen that was MORE expensive (the TWSBI 580-AL in pink) and THREE bottles of De Atramentis ink....  My husband had dropped me off and was circling the block and was NOT amused that I ended up spending about three times what the al-Star would have cost....

I might venture into an oblique nib. Just for something different.

It might be worth it just to find out if you love it or hate it.
