Montegrappa Fortuna Mosaic - Bock and Jowo nibs?

Can anyone please help? I am completely new to Montegrappa, and there are many new rabbit holes! Recently I fell for a Fortuna Mosaico Marrakech, and very nice it is. It came with a fitted F nib. I bought on-line an EF, but it will not screw in to the Marrakech section.

The internet suggests that older Fortuna pens had Bock nibs, while newer ones have Jowo nibs, each with their own feed and housing. In the photo, the one labelled Bock? came with my Marrakech; it has a '7' on the underside of the feed. I have seen elsewhere on the FPN a photo of a disassembled Marrakech with the identical set-up. The one labelled Jowo? is the one I have just bought.

Questions: have I identified Bock and Jowo correctly in the photo? There appear to be Jowo nibs available that are identical to the one in the photo. But I cannot find a Bock identical to the one that came with the pen. Bock's type 250 seems closest in the pictures I have seen, but the thread on the housing in mine covers a longer area than the ones on line. Or does thread length make no difference?

And - any pointers towards the history and evolution of the Fortuna series would be of interest!

Thanks - Peter

Both the OEM manufacturers will supply nibs only, nibs with feeds, and complete housings. It could well be that Montegrappa did not source the complete housing units, but just used the nibs with their own feeds and housings.

Thanks - things get ever more complex. Both nibs are indeed engraved Montegrappa on the top surface, so I guess they are made by or for Montegrappa. The nibs themselves appear to my untrained eye to be identical. So I guess what you say is correct, and it is the feeds and housings that vary. I'm wondering if I should buy a Bock type 250 and see if it can fit the Marrakech I have.

I want also to disassemble the nib units. I've tried gentle pulling and turning but to no avail, and I'm nervous of applying too much force. I'll soak them overnight. Are they screw-in or friction fitted?

They are friction fit. They are usually quite stiff to dismantle the first time. Sometimes it is easier to pull the nib on its own first and then the feed pulls straight out a bit more easily.

That said, a Montgrappa feed might fit differently into their own housing, but I very much doubt it.

Greetings, Peter

Did you get anywhere with this research?  I had a nice exchange of emails with peter.zanesco@montegrappa.com after I had questions about the converter supplied with my Fortuna Mosaic.  He might be able to help.
