Identification of vintage Sheaffer Sailor model

Hello to all

Looking for some kind assistance in identifying the model of a Sheaffer Sailor pen I just picked up on eBay. Seller reckons it's 1980's vintage, but wasn't completely sure. Can anyone help me please, from the pics included with this post? If I can provide any further info/pics, happy to do so.

I'd also be grateful if anyone could let me have the details of the ink supply options, as far as cartridge/converters go. I have an '80's Sentinel and trying to get cartridges/converter to fit has been, to say the least, frustratingly unsuccessful.

Many thanks

Tony

Sheaffer x Sailor Sentinel. I have one in matte grey. Sheaffer has a few models with that name, so information is hard to find because most collectors focus on the earlier models with the Sentinel name. Here’s the best reference I have found, via @terim and Peyton Street Pens:

Sheaffer x Sailor Sentinel

I use a Sailor converter with this pen.

Top 5 of 26 (in no particular order) currently inked pens:

Sailor 🐧 Mini Pro Gear Slim M, Van Dieman’s Neptune’s Necklace

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Pelikan M605 F, Pelikan Edelstein Moonstone

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Thanks @Penguincollector - that's what I was hoping was the case, not least of which because the Sentinel I got originally is the same model (I think) in glossy black (image included in this post), and the Skrip cartridge the seller included in the one I have just purchased should work in both, correct?

The possibility of a Sailor converter also working in both is intriguing - is that a contemporary one or vintage? If contemporary, would you mind posting me an example link, so I can try and get myself one or two? Would be delighted to get both these lovely pens up and running, and thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.

You’re so welcome! Mine is modern, found here:

Sailor converter

I have also seen pictures of them with the Sheaffer Skrip II cartridges, but I haven’t tried them, as they are harder to find than even the slim converter. I can try and see if one of those fits.

That's terrific news - the Sailor converter you linked to is freely available in the UK, so I'll order one to try with my black Sentinel while waiting for the stainless steel one to arrive in the post.

Given what you and others have told me about the difficulty of finding vintage cartridges like Skrip II and the slim converters, and my own dismal experience of hunting for them, I can only imagine there is not enough of a demand for anyone to make them independently of Sheaffer and sell them to enthusiasts? I'm anything but knowledgeable on the subject, but maybe the wonders of modern 3D printing might be a boon here for cartridge making?

I know nothing of 3d printing, but that would be ideal if possible.
