J Herbin Rouge Caroubier

I got this on a whim, knowing full well the colour is not the type I would appreciate. I couldn’t find anything redeeming about it, maybe you can 😛

It’s watery ink and lacks in the lubrication department especially if you use dryish pens and scratchy nibs.  :(

I was surprised that the other reviewers mentioned quick dry times, in my experience it wasn’t the case.

I'm assuming that the colour is named after the Carob tree flower.

If I was to get a colour in this shade, I would go for Octopus Koala Red.

Let’s start with the boring chroma:

Writing samples:

I went for humorous Christmas quotes.

The colour doesn't seem right here ;)

And finally, an "artwork", a quick sketch doodle in a lined notebook. Poor Kitty looks more like a cooked lobster :D

Yaaawwwnnn. ;)

:lticaptd:(George Burns "...in another city."  The others were good, but that one was hilarious - and true.)

:( No swatch kitty!

:) What a good friend, getting a bigger umbrella to cover your Mr. Kitty, too.

:yikes:Oh dear!  Mr. Kitty fell asleep in the sun!  No, he said something so embarrassing even his fur turned red!  Move over Dalmatians, it's the new Firecat breed, coming soon to a fire department near you! :D

Thank you, @yazeh, for enduring an ink you hated long enough to bring us a fun review!

@yazeh I would have warned you that this color is not for you.  I actually adore this ink. It has a lovely sheen on many papers and it is a lipstick color I would wear.

Thank you for another funny review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Nope. I had emptied all my pens and frankly I didn't want the kitty endure 3rd degree burns 😛

Gllad you enjoyed it. I had to bring some levity to this one, even though I didn't appreciate it ;)

I'm very particular about reds and oranges, it seems ;)

I was sure of it. I like it when people see beauty in what I can't see. It helps me see better :)

.I'll check my papers for sheen ;) as for lipsticks well that's not my department :D

I loved the review.

For 23 years Rouge Caroubier was one of my two go to inks for marking student papers.  It went in dozens of vintage pens and never caused a problem.  It handled the cheap student notebook papers without feathering and was bright enough for me to spot my notations on my final read through to tally points/marks.

The best part?  None of my students could find a rollerball/ballpoint that was the exact same color so they couldn't add to or modify my marks to change their grades.  They tried.  They tried really hard.  Rouge Caroubier and Noodler's Nikita foiled them every time.

Thank you for your review!

Rouge Caroubier is one of these inks I keep wanting to try, but there's always something else more interesting on my list to get first. I see you mentioned lack of lubrication, and you just saved me some $, thank you!

Do you have Herbin Rouge Opera?

Personally as a student, I never got the need to cheat or to change my note, even when I was mediocre as my best :D

Most welcome! You can always get a small 10 ml vial, but unless you do markup or sketches, I won't personally recommend it :)

I have Rouge Caroubier in a Preppy for editing my manuscript drafts (now I need to find it!).  Never noticed if it's dry or wet or underlubricated, but it worked okay on cheap copy paper.  I could have thought of this for a Christmas ink but this year, went for deeper, shading red.

I do like that sort of color but unlike @amberleadavis, I don't look good in bright lipsticks.  I'd jump on it as a pedicure color, however!

At least Kitteh has an umbrella, and wears black tie for his Christmas tea.

Thanks, @yazeh, for another great Ink-sploration.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

That's the good thing about copy papers. They make dry inks write well :)

Which one? I prefer dark red ones too :)

This year's Christmas red is a mix mixed with another mix!   'Sailor's Burgundy' and a red composed of Skrip and Monteverde Ruby.  😊
