Swan disassembling

I would love some advice on this 1936 gold Swan. It needs a new sac, but I cannot work out where it comes apart. I am maybe being a bit too gentle because I don't want to damage it!

I can get the nib out, but the feed appears to be stuck fast. It looks like the 'gold shell' is likely in several pieces, but I was hoping someone on here would be able to tell me where it opens.

The nib appears to be cracked, I will attempt to locate a replacement sometime in the future.
Any info on the model ID greatly appreciated too.
Thank you.

   Hi Karin,

gratulations to your wunderful Swan beauty, even a 14k pen not just gold plated. 🙂

Well, how to open it? Usually the section of a Swan Leverless is inserted just before the cap threads. Not screwed in.

Some people glue the section in using shellac , then some gentle heat is needed to open the pen.

I don't own any metal Leverless, so I can just guess it to be the same here...

Yes, finding a donor pen with good nib is a good idea, this one would take a lot of work to restore.

Best wishes and sorry I couldn't help more.

Jens

Kia Ora Karin. Hi. Welcome to the community.

I have nothing further to add but my congratulations on finding your beautiful Swan. I have a very similar precious metal (925 sterling) pen I thought was a Swan because of its Swan #2 nib.

After months of research I still can't confirm the maker. There is no doubt about yours. I love it!!

It's great to see such clean hallmarks which can, at least, identify the gold/silversmith etc.

I have several Swans in my small collection and they are definitely my favourite vintage pens and the Swan #2 nib has my enduring admiration!

JohnMC over in New Plymouth may not be accepting new clients at the moment but I have turned to him on numerous occasions for advice. He may even know of a good Swan nib locally.

You may already know John but this is his blog contact page.

Best wishes from Riwaka, near the Abel Tasman.

Thanks for the recommendation Tom.

I have already sent the pen off to John for him to have a look at. Have had him work on a couple of pens before, so know he gives excellent service. I didn't ask about a new nib, I will send him a message asking if he has one.
The pen was a TradeMe find, I reckon a good one. Certainly one I will always treasure. Trader was fabulous to deal with, which was great as it was my most expensive TM purchase in 20+ years, and the best trading experience in that time too! Sometimes you have to just trust in the feedback and go for it!
Riwaka is a beautiful place 💚 as is most of the Mainland.

I agree Karin. Trust and leap!

I'm sure it would be a very big deal and quite an achievement! Well done. Now you have a lifetime to cherish it.

I've had some wonderful TM experiences too. It can be easy and fun yet some people struggle and make hard work of it!

Yes, I saw the pen. I'm very glad you got it. I could only sit and drool:puddle: with this one! (I kept a couple of the auction pics to help research my pen). It is such a beauty!

There will be many clues inside, (once you get in there).

Soon you'll be writing happily with it..and I must say you have a lovely, 'hand', as they say, judging from the intro pics you have posted. And some pretty impressive Tasmanian inks!!

I have a green, snakeskin, Swan Minor that I occasionally fill with Van Dieman's, "Tiger Snake" and is a venomous combination!🐍

Great to meet you and I hope to hear more of your magnificent Swan story. And of your other favourites, if you don't mind sharing. See you around the topics.

Kind wishes, P.I.Tom
