I am determined to convert everyone I can to Sailor gold nibs!  And if you haven't tried one yet and are in the US, this is a good one to start with.  In a change from the standard black with gold trim, this is a baby blue that looks close to the below photo.  Free delivery and the seller is, once again, Amazon Japan.

Hey thanks for being vigilant about the sales! There are great deals to be had through Amazon Japan every now and then.  This one, however is a 14K plated steel nib, not all gold. You can find it stated at the bottom of the screen shot you posted.

Yes it does say that, but it is indeed 14k.  I've got the pen, and if you follow my link and look at the last photo on the left, it identifies what is on the nib.  The other way to assure yourself is do a search using the Sailor item number: 11-1224-301.  The gold plating is the trim.

Indeed, the photos show 14K nib. It is also confusing that Sailor’s web site describes the nib as “14K gold with gold plating”. Thanks for the correction.

Hmmm.  Now I'm wondering about the nibs on some of the Sailor pens I have (Pro Gear Slim Purple Cosmos, and the two 1911S North American exclusives from a few years ago -- the Loch Ness Monster and Wicked Witch of the West pens).  Just checked my inventory list and don't have them marked as being 14K but that could be an error on my part (of course the two latter pens also have that special coating on the nibs and trim....).

Not expecting, of course for the Lecoule to have a 14K nib.  But I'll check that one as well, just to be sure....

Here is from the Sailor official site in Japanese

ペン先仕上げ : Nib Finish
金メッキ: gold plate
金属部品: metal parts

Two lines above it is where Sailor has stated that the nib is made of 14K gold (and is ‘medium-sized’).

I ordered one. Now that I've topped up my caffeine stream and read all the words, I see this in the item description:

[Nib] 14K Gold Plated Medium Tip

I also had a look at the Sailor website here, which indicates the nib is 14K Gold with Gold plating.

Translation error? My own hasn't shipped yet so I have options...

Then I am confused. Is the nib 14k, or 14kgp? Does the GP refer to the trim, not the nib? Thanks for any clarity.

The nib is made of 14K gold, as the gold content purity mark on the nib's face indicates; and the nib is finished with gold-plating (of unstated purity, but presumably to make it look more brilliantly yellow-gold, so quite possibly pure/24K gold). If you don't doubt the existence of rhodium-plated 14K gold nibs, and ruthenium-plated 14K gold nibs, then why are gold-plated 14K gold nibs so bemusing an idea to you?

Well after I posted yesterday evening, I went and looked.  And all of the Sailors I own except of course the Lecoule ARE marked as having 14K nibs.  So have updated the inventory list accordingly....

Of course I just realized that the replacement nib on a 3rd tier lever filler I got repaired at OPS last month might ALSO be 14K....  (Nope -- just checked with the loupe and it's 14K gold PLATED but still a way better nib than what was on it originally....)

And now the available pens at this price has been substantially increased.  I placed 20 in my cart and was told I would get them December 18th.  I then carefully deleted it.
