Looking for a dark red ink

I did immediately love Writer's Blood. It was different enough from Oxblood, which is a long time favourite of mine. I own a LOT of similar inks, but it's these two I return to the most.

Yeah, I think I did state that I will be mostly relying on buying ink samples but using reviews to filter out the most obvious non-fitting inks so that way I don't buy an unmanageable amount of ink. For some reason I did not think of this. Though I just tried this out on both of my monitors and there wasn't any significant difference between the color on the paper and on either of the displays(other than the brightness). I know my monitors aren't anywhere near professional level in terms of color accuracy, so it's most likely that I can't tell the small difference between colors.

I think that says that most monitors are close enough in color accuracy that if a person doesn't constantly work with colors they are unlikely to notice the difference. I brought up color accuracy of monitors multiple times because I thought the difference would be bigger but I guess if you have a modern display most things will look accurate enough.

I think this ink has been recommended in this thread before, nevertheless its too bright and on the pinker side. The pictures you added don't really give what I am saying justice so I'll include some other pics from other reviews:

What about Montblanc Burgundy red

I had a bottle of MB Burgundy red a long time ago, and I ended up giving it away because it was drier than the Sahara in August.

So far in the pens I have it in it’s fine and I’m really enjoying it.

  • 5 months later...

Nearly six months later I have found some time to mess with inks again.

I ended up trying out:
Wearingeul Human Problem
J. Herbin Rouge Grenat
Diamine Burgundy Rose

Diamine Little Tam

Diamine Writer's Blood

Firstly, I tried all the inks more dry and more wet. The wetness definitely helped in getting a more darker color(obvious, I know). Now for the inks, I ranked them based on how close I think they are to what it was I looking for:

6. Diamine Writer's Blood - I gave this ink the benefit of the doubt because of how much people vied for it. To me it isn't even red, its more purple than anything.

5. Diamine Burgundy Rose - Was more on the purple/pink side. With a wet nib it had a slight brown to it.
4. J. Herbin Rouge Grenat - Slight upgrade to Diamine Burgundy Rose but its color didn't stand out as much as the rest.

Here is where the ranking gets kind of difficult, I quite liked all 3 of these and I had to nitpick quite a bit to decide on the rankings.

3. Wearingeul Human Problem - Great looking ink basically nothing to complain about.
2. Diamine Little Tam - Again hard to say anything bad about it.

Diamine Little Tam and Wearingeul Human Problem could be easily interchangeable in rankings. Both have their own color and darkness yet I cannot choose which I prefer.

1. Diamine Noel - This ink stood above the rest. A wet nib really helps it "shine" as the dark red it makes is unrivaled. However, when the lines aren't as wet they are on the pinker side. Even with the downside I honestly think it deserves this spot just because it can make the color I am looking for and I kind of like the slight pink accents now and then.

As high as I ranked Diamine Noel, it doesn't mean that I'm stopping here. I went through this thread again and added some inks that I decided against getting earlier. I also didn't order all the inks I said I would because the cost would have been too high at the time and or couldn't find a good store to order them at.

Already found and ordered:
Teranishi Modern Red
Diamine Blue Edition Mulled Wine
Stipula Calamo Dark Red
KWZ Maroon

Struggling to find:
Monteverde Cherry Danish
Rosso Passione
KWZ Red #1

Once I get through the above ones that I'll order, I'll post a pic of the swatch page containing all of them for reference.

In the USA, Goldspot Pens carries Leonardo inks and they currently have Rosso Passione in stock.
