Is this a genuine 146 Calligraphy?

I ordered this on ebay from this listing:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/134662348427

I had it shipped to a family member to bring it down, they are not familiar with this sort of thing.

Has asked for a few pictures, and the thing that threw me off was the curved nib sticker on the body, so I got on a video call and thad them take a few more pics, not tech savvy either but I managed to get a few better pictures.

I also have them run a phone flash light along the pen body and cap, it glowed red.

To me everything seems ok except that sticker.

Should I be worried? I have to just accept what it is at this point, don't want to bother them any more about this.

Looks legit to me. The sticker usually shows the nib size, this sticker is right for the pen as this indicates that it has the Calligraphy nib.

Thanks for taking a look, that sticker is the wrong one though, this sticker is used on the curved nib model, the calligraphy flex has the same swirls on the nib, like the connected SSS swirls folks do with pen demos. I don't know exactly what you call those swirls, I'm pretty new to the hobby, just started on spencerian etc :)

I see what you mean about the swirl. It does look different than the ebay listing. My regular 146 has No146 on the band

Thank you for confirming that, I'm think I'm ok but for that sticker. I'll know for sure in december.

Should it say No. 146 on the main band on the cap?

You are right.  The sticker is incorrect.

No, there is no "No. 146" on the cap bands of these special edition pens.

I think you are fine other than the sticker is incorrect.

  • 1 month later...

Finally got the pen yesterday, all good, box and pen serial number match, no stamps on the service manual, the curved nib sticker remains a curious detail.
Super pen, no skipping or railroading, Diamine Onyx Black.

It's a beautiful looking pen. I have the Montblanc Gold leaf Calligraphy fountain pen, but I cannot recall what sticker it came with. I hope you enjoy it and well worth the wait!

Thank you, the gold leaf Calligraphy is beautiful too, what's stunning is the edge of the  lines, sharp, high contrast. All other pens including my visit to Magna Carter factory yesterday, the Mag 600 lines were not as fine, nor did the edges have the same contrast, though it is a true flex.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
