Noodler's Bad Green Gatorbelongs to the warden series (4 inks). It’s forgery proof.

There are inks that are love and first write, this was one of them, maybe because I have a thing for Gators. But it’s a bad, bad ink. If I didn’t have a bottle of Polar Green, then this would’ve been my go-to green ink. But thankfully it isn't. ;) Confusing, eh? 🇨🇦

It made the Osmiroid pen, which is dry, write like a dream and no ink normally does, (the pen has flow issues)

But would I recommend it? absolutely not. It’s one of the most difficult inks that I’ve ever cleaned out of a pen. More difficult than Kung Te-Cheng and Polar Green, which are low maintenance compared to this thing. The ink sticks to everything. I had to let it soak in a pen solution twice for long hours. It'll make your Ef and would bleed the bejesus out of any paper. I didn't test it on copy paper, it's pointless when it bleeds through Tomoe River 68gr paper (the thick one_

I would recommend this only for cheap pens with a great seal, and with a F nib on Midori/ Rhodia/ Maruman papers. Or alternatively on thick absorbent papers.

Let's start with the chroma:

And finally an artwork: Inkotober yearly challenge - Sing

Other inks used:

Anderson Pens' Oshkosh Denim

Platninum Carbon Black

Super5 - Delhi (orange ink)

Pen Pébéo Gold Marker

Lierre Sauvage  Mixed with a hint of Kuretake Black ink....

· Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef, Lamy Safari (EF/F/M/B, 1.1), Osmiroid Copper Plate

· What I liked: It made the Osmiorid write like a dream, ultra fast dry times, waterproofness, name.

· What I did not like: bleed through, limited use, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning,

· What some might not like: Almost everything about it

· Shading: Non-existent.

· Ghosting: On most papers.

· Bleed through: same as above.

· Flow Rate: Very wet

· Lubrication: Above average.

· Nib Dry-out: Did not notice.

· Start-up: No.

· Saturation: Yes.

· Shading Potential: Dismal

· Sheen: Nope.

· Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Yes.

· Nib Creep / “Crud”: Did not notice.

· Staining (pen): It sticks to everything. It's like the Baystate Blue of Greens :)

· Clogging: No.

· Cleaning: High maintenance. Needs pen flush and multiple rounds of it.

· Water resistance: Excellent.

· Availability: 3 oz /90 ml bottles.

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier  :)

You did it again!  What I sure like about your reviews: everything but everything!!

Actually the colour is more than okay... maybe that's the trick here. Sort of a muted and/or forged paleness/pastel of Diamine's Kelly Green. Possibly that's the only thing I like about it (the ink).

Yes, it's the sort of green I like  Muted. But boy this thing will outlive the paper for sure :D

Thank you for enduring this ink's bad behaviors long enough to bring us all those fun gator drawings!  Love them! :)  Thankfully, this is not my shade of green, so I don't even have to overcome temptation or disappointment.

That's a relief, though maybe there are other warden inks, which my tempt you :D

@SamCapote will attest, I thought I was going crazy because I had so many issues when I got back into fountain pens.  Bad Green Gator was one of the inks that was so fussy it was BAD.  Thank you for this wonderful review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you for sharing your experience. 🙏It's funny how much I like some of these fussy inks, like Polar Brown! :)

I love some badly behaved inks (KTC and BSB to name two).

Thanks as usual for the comprehensive review.
I can definitely pass on this one -- not a shade of green I like.  So thanks for ALSO saving me money....

I found that diluting BGG to 75% with distilled water made the behaviour acceptable without noticeable colour change.  Not great, but usable.  I got my bottle soon after NT released it.

Cheers,

Effrafax.

Thank you, @yazeh, for the always comprehensive and unbiased reviews of good, bad and ugly inks!

The colour appeals to me, but what you describe about the ink properties repels me from the "buy" button. As I can see, InkSwatch sees some similarities with Lamy Peridot and R.Oster River of Fire. As I know the first very well, I think I will stay with that.

PS: Thank you for translating "Gator" for me/us, non-native speaker, with the informative and always funny drawing! Lovin' it! :D Now I understand "Gator" to be an abbreviation of not only any Gator, but of one who can sing and entertain other wetland inhabitants! 😊

One life!

An ink I own and use!  And it is baaaad indeed (though my ancient bottle is older, with a darker color more like pine needles).  The chroma is, well, green.

I used it in one pen only (Hero 329), for writing checks and underdrawings that would later get a watercolor wash.  And it is a sac stainer.  It also has what seems like flakes of either pigment or shellac.  These remain in the sac no matter what.

If I knew what was going on with this ink, I'd have chosen a cheep cartridge/converter pen for it instead.

I have diluted BGG up to 90% with water.  It makes a nice pale sage green.

I also have Lierre Sauvage, which is bad in its own way.

Love the Kitteh-Mousie-Bad Green Gator Trio.  They are, of course, playing jazz.  😜

@yazeh, thanks for this one, and all the others.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Pine needles seems nice!
