Informal Review: Wearingeul Queen of Hearts

I'm not one to enjoy Red ink and I have passed along barely used bottles of Red Dragon and Momoji, but this ink has become one of my favorites despite the fact it is a more troublesome ink.

The base color and tone is lovely and is perhaps a dark burgundy?  possibly has brown sheen?  It has gold shimmer particles which flow well in Broad/Stub nibs.

I had left my Pelikan OB sitting and forgot to shake it before use, the result was a lot of shimmer and poor ink flow.  With that being said, I capped shook it a little, and it wrote out perfectly.

One thing I will note is that when you're down to the last 10% of the ink, more problems arise w/ startup.  I find it easier to just refill or clean if changing to a new ink.  Otherwise a shake before uncapping

and I don't have any issues.

The other two pens are a stub nib and a flex nib; I have tried it in a medium nib and it wrote well w/out clogging but I don't enjoy the ink's qualities enough.

The Gold shimmer is lovely; I have it in 3 pens now and am using all three regularly on a daily basis with no issues.

That being said, I would probably use it even if there were no shimmer.

The ink does take a long time to dry (80seconds) and I have found some spots can still smear.

There is a slight degree of water resistance but as it's prone to smearing I wouldn't count on it.

There's no feathering that I've noticed on Rhodia or Tomoe River and no significant ghosting to where I'm happy to use both sides.

The bottle is cute w/ a hologram (it's neat when you have to shake it before filling).  Unfortunately, it's a square shape and only 30cc

so I suspect you'll need an ink miser or syringe fill after half the bottle is finished.  All in all, an impractical ink that's just beautiful and fun to use.

The above was written on Tomoe River (old).

Sadly, I'm out of copy paper/laser paper; I'll add a picture of that when I can.  I don't recall a significant feathering or spread.

@dftr Probably not a color for me, but thanks for the semi-review.  At least I can admire your handwriting....

Thank you, @dftr, for your review of this ink! :)  It looks quite nice in those big fat nibs of yours. ;)  And I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your different fonts - you have lovely handwriting.

@dftr Your penmanship is spectacular.  I just acquired  Wearingeul inks and I haven't inked them up yet.  You have inspired me.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you for this review. I like the colour of this ink - but would personally use it without the shimmer. I’ve been meaning to try this brand some day. Might get me a bottle to get a feel for the brand.

There are inks which are not the best, but we still enjoy to use.  Thanks for the review

Glad you found it helpful.  I got it on a whim based on the name and have found it nearly always inked in one pen.

Thanks for the kind words.  One thing I forgot to add is that the ink works well for hairlines/cursive but you can also use it for slower more blocky writing.  I've used it in my "expensive" pens without issues but these are also pens that are easy to clean.

Thanks for the praise; I admire your videos but I have reached a point where if I use XF nibs, I have no chance of finishing the ink...   I had thought about putting this ink in a fine or medium nib to show, but I feel to give people the best show of the ink, it's better to use fatter nibs.

I'm a sucker for their names.  I look forward to hearing about your experiences.  I have not been wowed by too many shimmer inks from the Inkvent or with Kyanicite Du Nepal, but so far every Wearinguel has been outstanding.  If you like Shimmer, "Path", "I am a Cat," and "Macbeth" are solid inks.  Macbeth has the advantage of being something you can use at work for notes.

Let me know if you find one that is close to the base colour?  It is a small complaint, but as my bottle is half way empty, I'm reaching a point where it's a hassle to try to shake the bottle to dissolve the shimmer, then pipette it into an ink miser, and fill before the shimmer precipitates out.  I may just siphon the remaining ink and leave the shimmer behind.  Fortunately, all three pens for this thread filled from the bottle for now...
