German Jowo #6 Housing vs Kanwrite Jowo Compatible Housing vs FPR Jowo Compatible Housing insights

One of my Kanwrite nibs developed a crack in its housing, so I needed to find a replacement. The obvious solution was to use one of my spare German Jowo #6 housings that I had sitting around. Then everything came to a grinding halt! The Kanwrite nib does not fit into the German Jowo #6 housing, and that's without the feed. What to do? My friend dropped off a few of his "retired" FPR #6 nib units for me to tinker with, and not to his surprise; the FPR Jowo #6 housing/nib/feed are interchangeable with the Kanwrite's Jowo #6 housing/nib/feed. So my pen is back in working order thanks to my friend.

I should also add that Kanwrite did not provide the housing or feed. I procured the unit (nib/feed/housing) via a third-party vendor from India.

My German Jowo #6 units have black plastic housings.

My Kanwrite Jowo compatible #6 units have clear plastic housings.

The FPR Jowo compatible #6 units have black plastic housings.

FPR source *most* of their nibs, feeds, and housings from Kanwrite - made to FPR specifications.  That might explain, though, why the FPR housing works for you.

Kanwrite have also (in more recent years) begun making housings for their nibs that are threaded for compatibility with JoWo - so if you buy a Ranga pen (for example) and ask for a Ranga nib unit (which is made by Kanwrite), you can substitute in any generic #6 JoWo nib unit.  [Also worth noting, you can substitute a JoWo nib into a FPR or Kanwrite nib housing, but a Kanwrite nib won't fit inside a JoWo housing - as you've already discovered!]

FPR #6 nibs are actually 6.3mm

That explains why they can squeak by with the Jowo #6 compatible housing, but you roll the dice when with the Bock 250 compatible housing.
