Thanks as always for the review.

:) You're very welcome!

I'll admit that I tried the ink a few years ago, and while I don't particularly remember the slow dry time, I *do* remember that while it did have pretty impressive shading, it was also, well, orange....

It's a grand ink I keep forgetting to use.:headsmack::wallbash:

It drys quite OK.

My other Noddlers ink Golden Brown which also shades well, takes a full written page on the second sheet to be able to use the back of the first sheet....so Apache Sunset dries in a normal range.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

:D  Yes, (Kiowa) Pecan is the same as Golden Brown.  Meanwhile, consider this a reminder to go grab your bottle of Apache Sunset and ink it up! ;)

You don't mean that it is the same ink, right?

Right, sorry, I meant the same in that it takes a crazy long time to dry - an hour, maybe more?

Golden Brown takes 10-15 minutes.

When one 'collects' inkwells, one learns that what the ink well sets had, wasn't a sander as falsely ID'ed, but for dried crushed up cuttlefish. That dried up the ink.

Sand in it doesn't absorb ink, was used to keep the ink from reaching the paper laid on top of the ink wet paper.....(I believe sand was back in the days of vellum, before paper.)

I could see either or both making a comeback.

An ink blotter steals the shading and makes the line wider.

Way back when I got a bottle of Apache Sunset and a bottle of Cayenne.

I did a little bit of mixing of the two and got a really nice shading combination of them using a flex nib fountain pen, I think it was a Serwex pen.

There are pictures on here somewhere that I can not remember.

It was Uncle Red who got me onto these two inks as I think he did the first sample of mixing them that I had seen.

I still have the bottles of ink and must do some more mixing when I have pens to refill.

:)  I'll bet it was gorgeous.

  • 1 year later...

Does this ink darken (in the bottle) with age?

I've been neglecting my pens/inks a few years, but now working in an office again and decided to bring in a Lamy with a bottle of the Apache Sunset (which I think they changed the name of?) and the brightness/yellow seems gone. More brown now... giving me Pelikan Brilliant Brown vibes.

This normal?

LAMY Al Star (Limited Ed. Copper Orange) w/ Noodler's Apache Sunset

LAMY Safari (Black) w/ Noodler's Black (Bulletproof)

LAMY Safari (Red) w/ Noodler's Eel Rattler Red

Noodler's Ahab (Clear Demonstrator) Used for Testing Inks

Parker Urban (London Cab Black) w/ Diamine Red Dragon

Parker Reflex (Green Pearl) w/ J.Herbin's Poussiere de Lune

No idea - I've only ever had samples (because the stuff never dries!).  Hopefully someone else will have an answer for you! :)

I hope not, in my seldom used bottle is some 12 years old; and I want to give a sample to a fountain pen noobie I've been leading down the slippery slope.

The lady from our old folks gymnastics group is so new, she thinks €10 for an ink is expensive....:happyberet:.

I never had any trouble with Apache Sunset drying....not like Noodler's Golden Brown, which take a whole second written page before one can write on the back of the first sheet.

Write fine for me, using a Lamy Safari M at work right now... not bringing an expensive pen. :D

Been a few years for me since bought this... I want to say about 5yrs? maybe around there... pre-covid for sure. Coulda swore it was a brighter livelier orange than it is now, now it's again, closer to brown than orange.

Dam, I got to test that...and soon.

I wanted to give some of my 12-year-old bottle to someone as a sample.
