Asvine P50

Asvine released a wrench for their fountain pens. Inadvertently, I think they unveiled their next model, the P50, a piston-filler with the same piston knob shape as the P36.

My reaction too. I'll pass.

Ditto. Zero out the colors and it’s a rather generic torpedo pen with a somewhat unfortunate company name. NB: I love my V169 & V126—the 126 is a great torpedo pen.

I generally like Asvine as I think they have a committment to quality, likely within a price point.  At any rate, these colors give me pause; there is none that I find especially appealing.  Since I already have more or less this pen with the P36 and P30, they will have to tantalize me a bit more, I suspect.

I have the set of M169s.  They are like the V169s but without the problems with the end cap and section.  Very nice pens, converter, not piston or vacuum.

Now that the P50 has been released on Etsy, we can clearly see that it's a Majohn T5 redesigned to look different. Same piston, same ink window, same grip section.

To me it looks like the T5 is inspired by the Aurora Optima and the P50 by the Aurora 88.

Yes, the pens clearly resemble two of the most renowned Aurora models.

My point was the striking similarity between some Asvine pens and Moonman pens. It is probable that they come from the same factory, or even that they are the same products under different brand names, with minor cosmetic variations.

Clearly there’s a very interconnected network of EOMs and part makers that swap designs and parts. Certainly the case with a number of Jinhao & Hero models. It may seem more cooperative than competitive and perhaps it is, but it also reminds me of the 2nd & 3rd tier pen and part makers in the US golden age and how even bigger pen makers made pens for other companies.

It will make for fascinating, frustrating research by pen collectors in the future!
