Coronet pencil repair question

Hello everyone! I’m cleaning up a Wahl Coronet pencil that has some issues. The pencil isn’t working, and I had two questions… First, does anyone know of a helpful diagram for the parts and mechanics?

Second, this pencil has a base metal part showing above the body where it meets the eraser cap. At first I thought the gold plate might have just brassed there, but from pictures of others, it doesn’t appear that the part should be visible on the pencil at all. (You can see it in the photo - should that ring like portion be fully inside?)

thanks for any thoughts or tips!

Hi, can't be of much help with the disassembly (maybe the front cone unscrews from the barrel?) but regarding your 2nd question: I was recently following the auction of this Coronet pencil and it also shows that inner metal bush, much more than on your pencil so I guess that it is not uncommon.

Hi there, the nose unscrews and then the entire mechanism pops out. Sometimes people replace Coronet mechanisms with a Skyline mechanism - they are not interchangeable, and that may be the issue.

On the base metal part, that's the top part of the mechanism, which doesn't show when there's adequate lead inside (more than 1/4 inch or so). It's telling you it's out of lead.

I never would have guessed the lead!! I’ll have to see if I can find some - thank you so much!
