Pilot 823 and Wing Sung 699 compatibility?

The barrel on my Custom 823 just cracked 🫠 I was wondering if it was possible to swap the pilot feed and nib on a Wing Sung 699 body? I don't have money to buy a brand new 823, but that nib is just fantastic. Nothing else I have is quite like it. I'd be grateful if anyone can help answer this question! :)

I had the same idea and asked the same question, so tried a swap when I had an 823 in the shop. Nope.  The nibs and feeds are not interchangeable.  IIRC, the section threads aren't quite the same either.

Repairing the crack (which I've seen many times) is tough because the plastic doesn't respond very well to the typical solvents that we use to repair cracks.  It isn't a strong weld.  I'm still looking for the perfect solution.  There may be a professional grade cyanoacrylate that would work.  The problem is that the 0-ring on the section and filler end push out and may cause the plastic to crack.  The right silicone grease on the 0-ring may help by allowing the 0-ring to slide past the barrel wall instead of binding.  I usually remove the 0-ring and after solvent welding use a rosin based thread sealant to seal the threads, tightening until the section just stops, not even snug.

So put your Pilot pen's nib and feed into an Opus 88 eyedropper-filled model that uses JoWo #6 or Bock type 250 nib units. Maybe there are other non cartridge/converter-filled pens from Gravitas, Nahvalur, Schon Design, etc. that you can use instead, but I'm entirely unfamiliar with those brands, their models and pricing, etc.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Thank you both for the info, much appreciated. I have non-converter pens with JoWo#6 nibs so that seems worth a try! Will share my results when I receive the item :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Received the housing yesterday and fit it on my F-C model 2, works like a charm!

Now I might also try and see if I can get the original barrel fixed somewhere...But before then, this wonderful nib will continue to serve 😁
