De Atramentis Document Red Grey

I really enjoyed using this ink. It’s an improved version of Noodler’s Red Black with the added full waterproofness, until I reached the cleaning part. It was not as straightforward as I thought. The ink managed to stain my Lamy convertor and in the end after soaking for few hours in water, the red dye was more than tenacious. So, I simply dunked it in my Monteverde cleaning solution and the problem was solved.

However it didn't stain the Pilot CON-40 nor the cheap nonane Chinese convertor.

This is not a deal breaker for me. The worst thing is when  ink smudges or refuses to dry, then bleed through. The rest I can live with, if I really like the ink.

It also doesn't like cheap thin papers.

Let's start with the chroma:

Nice! A really soft red, although I do see some blood in it. So, let's call it a "warm" red. Also, some "manuscriptness" in it, like in the Galileo number. I know, I know, I keep repeating that old comparison, but I do treasure it so much (the Galileo Manuscript); thusly, this might be a good substitute.

Ink: Hmm.  I dunno.  Maybe.  (Though I can do without the cleaning routine.)

Supercat and HulkMouse: Hooray!  Please don't drop us! :D

Watertest Cat and Mouse: Very charming pair. :)

Thanks for another fun and interesting review!

I'm not sure if its has that brown element of Galileo. I'm sure that between De Atramentis Document Sepia and Noodler's Polar Brown, there should be something similar to it :)

Great shading! This ink (its shading, permanence and hue) is a surprise. Thanks for bringing our attention to it.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Not a color for me, but thanks as usual for the comprehensive review.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Thank you, @yazeh, for your always comprehensive ink reviews!

Only recently, I started to love these muddy-rose and muddy-purple ink colours. Red Grey has entered my (long, very long) buy list for new inks.

What I learned today: The cat is called A'Tuin and the four elephants are not more than a fairy tale, in truth it is only one mouse! ;)

One life!
