Sailor K-O-P nib changes?

I recently got a new Sailor King of Pen, with the new style nib. Nib is all gold, no plating, and has a new design - larger anchor, no "1911" text. I have several pens with the older nibs.

My sense is:

  • New nib is softer, with more flex
  • Nib is probably thinner
  • So probably has less gold
  • Cost Sailor at least slightly less.

My nib is a medium, ground to a fine. I don't like the new nib as much - it's too soft and very sensitive to pressure. It's a long nib with a big feed, and a light touch can flex it enough to place too much ink on the page. I find it harder to control for a consistent line.

Curious if anyone else has experienced same, or different.

Hello @markh.

Just noticed your post — sorry this comes so late.

I agree, the new nibs are quite different. The older "M" nib was much less broad than the new medium, and a bit firmer. It's interesting that they changed the formula for such successful nibs. I have a broad as well. The difference in line width here is less pronouced, but the newer nib is even wetter and softer.

When I first got a pen with the new nib I was a bit disappointed, but now I've become used to it. It's actually decent training for me to use a light hand.

Anyway, you aren't imagining things. The new nibs really are different.

Best,

Paul
