Making a Frankenstein Pen: New barrel old nib

Fountain Pen Build

Hi, I am a relatively new fountain pen user, and I was wondering about the possibility of making a Frankenstein pen.  Here are the pens I have:

  • Waterman 52 Ideal Medium Flex Nib (Canada) Lever Filler
  • Pilot Metropolitan Fine Nib (Cartridge Fill)

I LOVE the nib on the Waterman, but don't like the lever fill, clip, and barrel.  On the other hand, I LOVE the barrel and the clip on the Pilot, but don't love the nib.  Also I would love it if the Pilot were an eyedropper instead of a cartridge filler.

Is is possible to make one Frankenstein pen with the following qualities?

  • Pilot Metropolitan Barrel and Clip
  • Waterman 52 Ideal Nib
  • Eyedropper Fill

Here are some photos of the pens:

Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!    Thank you!IMG_0725.thumb.JPG.ef689249504c0afbbe308b503de9b9ad.JPG

What about keeping the cartridge on the Pilot Metropolitan and installing the nib from the Waterman 52m onto the Pilot?  Is this possible?

I doubt it would fit.  Nibs and feeds have to be compatible.  But I must ask, in the Waterman you have a desirable pen.  Why mess with it?  Or take a chance on ruining it, which is very likely once you pull the nib (if it's even 'pullable').

Even if you dislike using lever-fillers, you could sell this at a profit and get something you do like.

Try posting this dilemma in the Repairs section.  You'll get more answers.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thanks for the tip; I'll try posting it in the Repairs section.  It's not that I don't like the Waterman 52; I really do like it.  But I much prefer the feel of the barrel of the Pilot, the click cap (instead of screw) and I love the pocket clip that is actually functional (the Waterman clip is a joke).  But the Waterman 52 is still my #1 go to writing implement.
