Esterbrook nibs....?

Where would be the best place for me to purchase Esterbrook nibs at a really good price? I'm looking for a fine to extra fine nib as well as any calligraphy-style nibs that may be available (both right hand & left hand). Any help and/or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It all depends on your definition of "really good price". eBay is actually full of dealers who will sell you just about any size nib you desire. If it is Esterbrook RENEW-POINT NIBS, that are interchangeable with any other pen in the Model J Family of fountain pens, then I can direct you to some of the most honest & reputable dealers on eBay. If it's nibs for dip pens they are out there as well. I buy both quite frequently. I've never had a bad experience with the dealers I tend to use & they always seem to have what I want & are almost always willing to negotiate concerning the price. Pens, nibs, parts, etc,, they're all out there waiting.

Hey Smoky Mountains, my old stomping grounds. 😘

Most of my Esterbrook nibs came with the pen and a few I purchased as separate units. I used eBay. I know they have increased over time in cost. Here is a handy chart. Esterbrook Nib Chart (snyderfamily.com)

The Gregg Shorthand might suit your fine point needs and are generally the most inexpensive.

I definitely do want nibs that are interchangeable with any other pen in the Model J Family of fountain pens. I am interested in fine, extra fine and italics (both left & right hand slants if available). And eBay would be a very good site for me to look if you could direct me to vendors that you trust. Thanks in advance....

Don't know about current prices, but also have a look at the Anderson Pens website -- they often have Estie nibs for sale.  (Apparently that's how Brian and Lisa Anderson met -- bidding against each other on Esties at auctions... :D).

The interchangeable nib units are one of the things I like the most about vintage Esterbrooks, and why I'd argue that they aren't a 3rd tier brand as some people claim -- definitely a 2nd tier brand in my book (top tier being stuff like Parker and Sheaffer).  I like that they have a huge range of nib widths and levels, from the student grade 1xxx nibs to the top of the line 9xxx ones.

Speerbob is great, sandy101rock sells great products but due to a disagreement with me, she won't sell to me anymore. She still sells some nice pens & nibs, just not to me. Enter Esterbrook nibs into the eBay search & you can scroll past the pens. If all you want are nibs you'll come across multiple sellers & some are newbies, some have negative feedback & then you comes across some that have been selling for quite sometime, have great feedback & have what you want. ALWAYS checkout feedback & if any decent seller has a storefront, check it out. Maybe you know these helpful tips already but maybe you don't. I've been dealing with Speerbob for quite some time & I would be buying a pen w/a fine nib & I just ask him if he would replace that nib w/a broad nib & he always accommodated me @ no extra cost. Great guy & should you be in the market for another Esterbrook Model J both he & sandy101rock are great. Have fun & if you wish, I can put some Esterbrook DURACROME RENEW-POINTS as well as some Esterbrook dip pen nibs on for you if you're interested. Let me know & I'll put the running price w/MAKE ME AN OFFER on it & make me whatever you feel is a fair price & we'll to a consensus. I'll have to go through my nibs but I'm sure I'll at least have some of what you're looking for. Later.

I got lucky, and was the only bidder on a 9314-M nib on eBay. It was listed at a starting bid of $30.  Very exciting. I have the 2314-M nib, and like it very much.

Congratulations, @Misfit

My rare nibs came attached to a pen.

Thank you @Estycollector  The nib was a Speerbob auction. He included a photo of writing with the nib. It will be neat to see how it compares to the 2314-M.

They are very similar, with the 9314 being just bit smoother and fluid.   Both are fun nibs.

@gweimer1 Thank you for the clarification. I have a 2314-B that isn’t as smooth as the 2314-M.

Have you checked the alignment of the tines?  The big struggle with any vintage nib is not knowing how it was used, or abused, before finding its way to your pen.  And, even though the 2xxx series tips are just folded over tines with some solder, they are frequently easy enough to get aligned and tuned up.

I will do that. Thank you for the information.
