The 3003. (i) I don't already have one. (ii) It's a c/c-filler* with no metal stem to rust inside the pen body over time.

* with a supplied converter, of course

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

3003 - one in each colour. I like the prera looks. Though tbh, at the price these are I'd probably go for a 3113 as well.

I thought about that. My 3013 recently broke but my 3003 is still going strong.

Yes, that is a good point

I have a couple of the transparent jewel-toned 3013 with Paili EF nibs. I currently have one inked with Noodler's Navy and I like it quite a lot. Writes smoothly, starts every time, puts down a decenly fine line that's not too wet. It is fairly hefty but since the cap won't post...

I don't have any 3003 for comparison.

I’m looking to add a few more “fun” pens to my drawer, pens into which I can put inks I may not otherwise want to trust in my prized good pens.

So, as between the Wing Sung 3003 as discussed here, and a Jinhao 992 which would you enthusiasts choose?

Thanks for any replies.

The 992 sets I've had can be iffy as far as nibs go.  I haven't experienced the same problems with the 3003 or 3013.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I'd pick the 3003. i've had several of them, and give them away to new pen users.  I think that the Wing Sung pens in general are better than Jinhao's.

Thanks for the intelligence Sailor, Ron, & Muddy. I’m off to buy a gaggle of the 3003’s.

I'd go with the 993 Shark if you want "fun pens" to load with sketchy inks. The Shark is a kid pen but it's available in a lot of fun colors.

The 992 works better in a dress shirt pocket as it looks more professional and has a clip. However the cap is not airtight so you may have to dip a nib if you don't use a 992 daily.

Both models are cheap, easy to clean, and can be eyedropper filled.

I liked my Jinhao 992, but there have been plenty of reports of catastrophic failures of the barrel and cap.  I had a Jinhao 599 in similar or identical material, and it did suffer such a failure.  Look through the last few pages of this thread:

Nor would I convert a Jinhao 992 to eyedropper, as the barrel has a plug in the end, and reports of cracks around that plug are rife.  Mine did develop such cracks, and I knocked the plug out.

I have yet to get a badly-behaved Jinhao 51A.  I've used some 4 or so.

Yep, I feel so bad for giving that glowing review of the 992 when it first came out, then they started falling apart a couple months later. They nibs are still fantastic, but they can be found on a lot of other Jinhao pens. I've lately acquired some Jinhao 82s and they seem to be made of better materials, but time will tell.

I still have a bunch of 992 demonstrators.  A crack near the plug has developed in a couple but they still write.  Good ink testers.

Funny, I hadn't noticed that so thanks for the PSA. I only have one inked right now - as an eyedropper. I have several in the drawer that I bought specifically to use as eyedroppers, too. I suppose a bit of epoxy could fix any potential princess before the occur so I'll add that to my endless to-do list.
