Ten days, that’s lightening fast for international shipping!

I ordered two identical items (which were not pens) in the same AliExpress order, on 23 August. One of the items was faulty out-of-the-box, so I quickly made a video demonstrating the defect, the same morning I received delivery of the order. When I then went to open a dispute, I was blocked by the system halfway through the process, because:

I really like these transparent yellow and green colors, I’m not sure why.

I am certain I saw the same colors a few years ago from sailor pro gear slim pens sold by Wancher. I don't know if they are still available though.

I prompted the operator of Mary's stationery Store on AliExpress, and now it lists the five colourways originally offered for the Jinhao 82 Mini, including surprisingly the Haibao Blue (or Sky Blue) with EF nib as an option, which isn't offered by the other store, and not even available from the Jinhao official store on Taobao.

There's still a price advantage to order from the other store on AliExpress, if you're going to buy strictly more than one unit of the Jinhao 82 Mini in the same order.

Cancelled my Taobao order today, and reordered a unit of each of the eight colours of the Jinhao 82 Mini from AliExpress sellers‡, even though it would have been slightly cheaper from Taobao. I'd rather have slightly quicker delivery, and the (false?) confidence in AliExpress to sort things out for me relatively painlessly if one or more pieces don't turn out quite right.

I guess I'm about to find out just how tricky or risky it is to cancel a Taobao order and get my money back. At the moment, it looks like I might not (automatically) get back the tax component, even though the official shipping charges (for which the seller isn't responsible) might not require active chasing on my part.

Not all from the same seller.

Did you select any of the hooded nib models? I bought four, two hooded, although I don’t like the look, simply to check them out. Maybe I’ll change my mind once they are in my hands.

I think I remember most Chinese EFs are not fine enough for your taste (just barely acceptable for mine). Does that apply to these small Jinhao nibs? Do you have to hand grind to suit?

Same here. Two hooded — one of which, just for kicks, was ordered with F/0.5mm, even though as I understand it, Jinhao's hooded nibs only come in 0.38mm or bent (0.7mm? 1.0mm?) — and the remainder with open nibs, including even one M nib. What the Jinhao official store on Taobao doesn't offer, I want to see what the AliExpress seller in question does with those parts of the order. (If something is really off with those, then I'll just get AliExpress the platform operator to refund me.)

Small (size numbers 24 to 26, and ‘aeroplane’ nibs in the style of the Lamy Z50 nibs) Chinese EF nibs are usually OK for my line width requirements; and some of the F nibs on Jinhao 82 pens have proven to be usable. I think having dry ink flow out-of-the-box helps; and, no, I haven't reground any of the nibs on my more than ten Jinhao 82 pens (but then I haven't inked all of them up yet, either).

Surprisingly, I got every last cent back automatically, tax component included — according to my credit card issuer's account statement, even though information supplied to me by AliPay's system indicated otherwise earlier.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is just inference, since I haven’t gotten my 82 minis, but after seeing this AliExpress ad, it looks like the caps and sections are interchangeable with the regular 82.

Can you post a picture with the mini and the regular side by side uncapped?

I did. Did you follow that link, and look through the series of images I posted?

Dan Carmell: thanks for posting the short converter for this pen.

I hope that it is the case that the pen takes a normal cartridge, while the converter is reduced to fit the shortened barrel.

What is it like in use with bottled ink? Better than the converter of the Kaweco Sport?

I hope so.

I still haven’t received mine! They are in transit still, or possibly eternally.

By 'normal' cartridge I assumed a cartridge with a 2.6 mm throat.

Despite what people assert, NOT 'International' size.

Had a messy experience with a cartridge of Herbin black in a X450 at work.

Impressive! The only thing I dislike is that they went with black rubber gaskets between the section and the barrel when they should have made them white, since most of the pen is white/ivory, and they already have white ones on all the translucent standard 82's. Weird choice.

This is what became of the Seaweed Green one, before I handed it over to my wife:

I don't mind that design decision, considering that the metal connector joining barrel and grip section is opaque, and even on the Sakura Pink pen, the black O-ring cannot really be seen through the acrylic. I don't even mind that the piston mechanism and driver handle on the Mini's converter is black (instead of white/clear), which is a bit more noticeable when the Sakura Pink or Gold Stone barrel is positioned on top, or in front, of light source.

However, if the black O-ring bothers you all that much, you can always get a translucent Jinhao 82 and use it as a donor of replacement parts to suit your aesthetic preferences. 😏
